<strong>Description</strong> of the post of CLASS TEACHER with no TLR payment (<strong>Maternity</strong> <strong>Cover</strong><br />

Contract)<br />

Initially a maternity cover contract from September <strong>2017</strong>, which may result in a<br />

permanent position due to our planned new build and rising pupil numbers.<br />

PROFESSIONAL DUTIES:<br />

The School <strong>Teacher</strong>s’ Pay and Conditions Document sets out the professional duties you are<br />

required to fulfil as a condition of your employment, this available for inspection in school.<br />

RESPONSIBLE TO:<br />

The Head <strong>Teacher</strong> and the Governing Body.<br />

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:<br />

The <strong>Teacher</strong>’s role is described under the following headings:-<br />

Planning<br />

To work closely with the Head <strong>Teacher</strong> and colleagues in the planning and<br />

implementation of the School Improvement Plan.<br />

To implement and develop the school’s curriculum through collaborative planning,<br />

INSET and staff development with particular reference to the age group with which<br />

they are working and inline with the Whole School Curriculum Framework.<br />

To plan over long, medium and short term the learning development of the children<br />

for whom the <strong>Teacher</strong> is responsible. This planning to be consistent with current<br />

practice throughout the school.<br />

To plan the allocation and use of resources in the classroom appropriate to the age<br />

and level of ability of the children.<br />

To plan the working environment of the teaching area, including furniture layout,<br />

resource areas and displays.<br />

To take into account, when appropriate, any planning work with allocated support<br />

staff and/or student placements.<br />

To allocate work to the children appropriate to their age, interest, aptitude and<br />

ability.<br />

To allocate appropriate resources to the children in order that they carry out their<br />

work.<br />

To allocate suitable storage to enable children to access resources efficiently.<br />

To allocate appropriate time to preparation, implementation, checking and marking<br />

of children’s work.<br />

Monitoring and Evaluation<br />

To monitor the work and activities of the children, individually, as a group and as a<br />

class.<br />

To monitor and evaluate the use and care of resources used by the children, the<br />

<strong>Teacher</strong> and other adults working in the classroom.<br />

To monitor and evaluate the behaviour of the class and of individual children.<br />

To monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of jobs/tasks undertaken by students,<br />

parents and other helpers in the classroom.<br />

To ensure that the classroom is organised and tidy and to be aware of any health and<br />

safety hazards.<br />

Communication<br />

To contribute, where appropriate, to the effectiveness of all communication<br />

procedures within school.<br />

To share in the exchange of information, ideas and opinions between all staff and<br />

children.<br />

To communicate openly, honestly and politely with parents.<br />

To liaise with appropriate outside agencies and support services, including other<br />

schools and departments of our school, particularly at transfer stage.<br />

To communicate, where relevant, with members of the community, including the<br />

school governors.<br />

To attend courses and in-service training events which are appropriate for the<br />

<strong>Teacher</strong>’s professional development and in line with the School Improvement Plan.<br />

To train the children in the routines and tasks of the classroom, encouraging them to<br />

take a responsible attitude in maintaining high standards of care and safety in the<br />

classroom and school.<br />

To create a caring attitude among the children, which fosters co-operation and<br />

goodwill within the class and within the school as a whole.<br />
