COMMON VIOLATIONS OF DEED RESTRICTIONS
Raintree Village is a deed restricted community aimed at ensuring there’s
aesthetic uniformity between residential properties and that certain other
activities are limited. If you intend to do anything to the exterior of your home,
you must complete an application for home improvements and modifications
form. This includes installing a storage shed in your backyard.
There’s also an expectation that all residents will maintain their yard and
general appearance of the home. Common violations include overgrown
yards, mold on homes, trashcans visible from the street and disabled vehicles.
Our management company, KPM, drives through our community
at least once a week assessing compliance with the deed restrictions.
Any violations are communicated in a letter along with a picture of the
violation (date & time stamped).
It’s understandable that issuing or receiving such letters can be perceived
as a nuisance. Yet, it’s necessary so that all of us remain on the same page
of what constitutes a well-kept community (i.e. deed restrictions). In general,
the Management Company and HOA Board understand residents are
busy. Therefore, you are encouraged to contact the management company
(KPM) when a violation cannot be addressed within stated timeframes
noted in the letter.
It cannot be emphasized enough that communication is the key if you do
not understand a violation. Again, contact KPM or attend our HOA Board
meetings for additional clarification.
ELEMENTARY EDUCATION CORNER FOR AT HOME PRACTICE
By Jeff Carrus
Problem solving in Math can be a very difficult task for many students. It is
crucial that we teach our children how to attack word problems and build
their confidence in working these out. Many students get confused by the
wording of word problems or in knowing what is asked of them, which
prevents them from using their mathematical skills to get the answer.
When faced with a word problem, ask your child, “What is the problem
asking you to do?” It is important that they first understand the problem
before they begin trying any operations they may know to try to get to
an answer.
Make them tell you or even write what the problem is asking first. They
can do this by creating a fill in the blank sentence. For example, a problem
might say, “Vanessa had 35 candies, Tim had 25 candies and Jon had 15
candies. How many more candies does Vanessa have than Jon?” Have
your child write the sentence they need to answer, “Vanessa had ____
more candies than Jon.”
Now they know what the problem is asking and can realize that they don’t
need the information about Tim. This assists them in knowing how to even
begin to tackle a problem. It is also essential for a child to show some sort
of problem solving strategy or some sort of “work”. This allows the student,
teacher and parent to see the thinking of the student so they can know
how to help them and what errors need to be corrected or addressed.
Ask your child, “Why did you do that operation or step?” as they work so
they become confident and comfortable explaining their thinking. This will
build their skills because they will think deeply about why they choose to
do that and if it is the right decision.
