Frontenacs head coach Jay Varady said it is
a great opportunity for Brand and Morgan to
show their skills against their own age group.
“They come into the OHL and are the youngest
players in the group. Now they get to play
against their peers. It’s a great opportunity for
them to show their skills,” Varady said.
“They will get to play in some different roles
and then come back and hopefully build on
that as they rejoin the team.”
Brand, who has one assist and a plus/minus
of +2 in the eight games he has played for
the Frontenacs, sees playing in the World
Under-17 Challenge as the chance to put to
use what he has learned so far in the OHL.
“I’ve gotten to know the pace of the OHL, so
I’ve been getting a bit better at developing that.
This will help me going into the tournament,”
Brand said. “I’ll just use everything I’ve
learned so far and then use everything I learn
at the tournament to bring back to the OHL.”
Morgan, Kingston’s first overall selection
at the Priority Selection last April, said the
tournament will be an opportunity to expand
his hockey knowledge.
“Try to pick up some tips from the coaches
there and all that,” Morgan said. “When I come
back, it will be the same way I am playing now.
