Don’t
Sweat
it
So, we get it. The gym isn’t your place, or you
don’t have time… or “what’s a gym?” Sometimes working
out is more than just an inconvenience, it’s a pain in the
(editors sensor) and you don’t want to go all the way to the
Cage. So here are some quick things to do in your dorm room
that are easy and won’t take too much of your time. Build
some muscles or raise your heart rate without the need for
tremendous motivation.
Fitting fitness into your day can be a tough battle; it’s hard
to justify taking time away from clubs, school or friends. It’s
time you could be spending doing something else. However,
you will feel even more accomplished in your day if you take
just 15 minutes to do a quick workout; plus you can brag
about it endlessly to your friends.
So, if going to the gym or going outside to work out
where people can see you isn’t your thing, freshmen Dara
Sparks and Bryce Nethery have shared how they work out in
their dorm rooms.
Crunches
Tricep
Dips
What is your normal dorm room
exercise routine?
Dara: I will use whatever I need for that day. For instance
if I’m having lower back pain I will look up yoga for my
back on a channel called “Yoga With Adrienne”. Then I will
do that routine normally for 15 minutes to half an hour.
Once I’m finished with that routine I’ll move on.
Bryce: So it would have to be around three sets of push
ups, followed by three sets of crunches, and then I usually
do some kind of two minute mountain climbers or burpees
and do as many as I can. I usually do that two or three times.
How many times a week do you do
your yoga routine?
Dara: I like to do it as much as I can, which ends up
being once a day.
Bryce: Probably at least four times a week, but if I
could do it every day that’d be nice.
When would you say is the best
time to do your workout?
Dara: I do it when I am done with my classes for the day,
or I’m right off work, normally when I’m really stressed or
really sore.
Bryce: For me, it’s right before I take a shower because
then I just know for sure I’m getting all the sweat and
energy out of me before I try to revive with a shower.
What do you like best about
exercising in your room?
Dara: I like being surrounded by things that are
comfortable to me. It makes me feel more comfortable than
if I was just in the gym doing it with white walls.
Bryce: I like that it’s kind of private so you can just do
it really quick, like if you didn’t get a chance to go to the
Cage that day, you can just do that as your workout. And
that way no one judges you for going to the Cage for like
five minutes.
