Welcome to Fancy Farm Vineyard and Winery, a destination you will come to love. Nestled in the small rural western<br />
Kentucky town of Fancy Farm, you can enjoy a wide variety of wines and the friendly atmosphere of chatting with your<br />
new friends and neighbors.<br />
Tom Curtsinger, owner of the vineyard and winery, is a four-generation landowner from a family rich in agricultural innovators<br />
and history of diversified farming.<br />
Thirteen years ago, Tom found himself at a winery in Southern Illinois. His curiosity about grapes got the best of him and<br />
he started asking vineyard owners a lot of questions. His search for information about vineyards took several years and<br />
thousands of questions. Tom became convinced he was able to start growing “vinifera” grapes, also known as the European<br />
varietals. The grape experts told Tom that these grapes couldn’t be grown in Kentucky. Tom would prove them wrong.<br />
Knowing the labor requirements for grapes didn’t compare to a crop of tobacco, Tom’s first year, he planted one acre of<br />
grapes, which included seven varieties, His second year another acre was planted, and in his fourth year he planted two<br />
more acres. At this point he had a vineyard with no name.<br />
The process of finding the right name for the vineyard came with enormous amount of mind bending and bad ideas over the<br />
next two years. One day it occurred to Curtsinger that a farm would grow corn and soybeans, but only on a “fancy farm”<br />
or in Fancy Farm, would you grow fine wine grapes. The town name was not only perfect for the vineyard, but would truly<br />
reflect the spirit of the support from the entire town.<br />
The next course of action was to decide what logo or icon would best represent the spirit of the vineyard. Tom posed the<br />
question “What would you see on a fancy farm but not a regular farm”? One might imagine an old scarecrow in tattered<br />
bib overalls, flannel shirt and straw hat, Tom thought you never would see that creature on a fancy farm, but a scarecrow in<br />
top hat and tails would be more fitting. The winery icon is a simplified version of an outline of a top hat, a simple scarerow<br />
face having a smile with four stitches, which represents his four sons. The bowtie on the scarecrow is centered with the<br />
letter “C” for Curtsinger. Fancy Farm Vineyard & Winery was created!<br />
Adding vines over the next several years, the vineyard is now comprised of six acres of grapes and 1/3 acres of blackberries.<br />
The varieties of grapes grown in the vineyard are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sangiovese, Malbec, Chardonnay,<br />
Viognier, and Riesling.<br />
Since the beginning of the vineyard, Tom has enjoyed working with his sons in the vineyard, as well as the love of his<br />
life and his best friend for life, Robbie Felker. Robbie has kept Tom grounded and focused in achieving his dream, and is<br />
definitely the “strong woman behind the successful man” which makes for a perfect team.<br />

As you enter this circa 1894 Victorian brick home, you embrace the<br />
warmth and graciousness of an era when family and friends<br />

The home was built by the Griffith family in the early 1890’s.<br />
Rebecca, one of the Griffith’s daughters was born, married and<br />

Camp Beauregard - Water Valley, KY<br />
Established in Water Valley in 1861, it’s purpose was to protect the eastern flank of <strong>Co</strong>lumbus, KY. It also served as a recruiting & training center. At<br />
its peak housed 6000 men. No actual battles were fought here but several scouting parties engaged in skirmishes. Epidemics of typhoid, TB & pneumonia<br />
took the toll of men stationed here. Over 2000 confederate soldiers are buried here.<br />

The 1917 monument is significant to <strong>Graves</strong> <strong>Co</strong>unty. A strongly <strong>Co</strong>nfederate community, <strong>Mayfield</strong> was occupied by a small Union force in 1864 & the<br />
citizens were forced to build an earthen fortification around the <strong>Co</strong>urthouse. Only one of four Civil War fountains in Kentucky.<br />

Located ten miles west of <strong>Mayfield</strong> on Route 80. It was settled by Roman Catholics starting in 1829 & the community grew around St. Jerome Church,<br />
built in 1836. The village is the site of the annual Fancy Farm Picnic, famous as a traditional political gathering featuring state & national political<br />

Barn Quilt Trail<br />
Barns and quilts have a special place in <strong>Graves</strong> <strong>Co</strong>unty and for years barn quilts have been a part of our landscape. There has been an effort in recent<br />
years to “map” the barns across the county and have a trail of where they are located, by GPS coordinates. Linked into the KY Barn Quilt Trail.<br />

Lighthouse Mission Statement: Show women and children in our care that there is hope for a better future.<br />
To help them see they are valuable human beings worthy of respect and protection. We want to teach them to<br />
be self-sufficient, confident, and most of all victors over their trials and tribulations. Help them to see the love<br />
and power of God through the facility’s words, teachings, values and deeds. The Lighthouse is a safe place for<br />
women and children to stay as they develop habits that lead to total healing: spiritually, emotionally, physically,<br />
financially, as they re-establish their lives and familes. The Staff and volunteers work to offer services in helping<br />
the weak and the hurting. Jesus extended His hand to a hurt, sick, and scared population. We, at the Lighthouse,<br />
know we are called to extend our hand as He called us to do.<br />
About the Lighthouse: The Lighthouse was founded as a faith-based organization in 1999 to address the<br />
short term housing needs of women with children who are homeless or escaping domestic violence.<br />

transportation, infrastructure and a healthcare system that does not have<br />

WYMC radio was born on October 18, 1976. The<br />
original owners were Ron Gentry, Nathan Sholar,<br />
Hubbs Waller, Rick Boggess and Dr. George Pickens.<br />
In 1977 Gentry, Sholar, and Boggess bought<br />
out the stock of Pickens and Waller. Ron Gentry<br />
WYMC later radio bought was the born interest on October of Sholar 18, 1976. and Boggess The<br />

<strong>Graves</strong> <strong>Co</strong>unty Farm Bureau began in 1937 on the 2nd floor of a rented office building on the west side of the court square. Shortly<br />
thereafter, around the early 1940’s, the insurance company was born to provide affordable insurance to farmers, who at the time<br />
were considered high risk.<br />
Over the years many individuals have volunteered their time to serve as local Farm Bureau directors. Through conservative management<br />
they have continually strived to upgrade facilities for entire memberships which own all the assets.<br />
A small asbestos sided house was purchased around 1962 located at 306 North 7th Street. This served the membership until approximately<br />
1977 at which time the John C. Waters building located at 320 North 7th Street was purchased. The building served as<br />
their home until 1986 as membership continued to grow.<br />
In the mid 1980’s Federal Land Bank and Production Credit Association merged during tight economic times. This allowed the directors<br />
to purchase the Federal Land Bank building.<br />
As membership continued to grow it became evident that additional parking and a drive-up window were very much needed to accomodate<br />
customers. The directors of <strong>Graves</strong> <strong>Co</strong>unty Farm Bureau had the foresight to purchase a tract of land while selling off<br />
three parcels to accomodate this need. Our move to the Dick Castleman By-Pass, next to Jackson Purchase ACA and the new FSA<br />
office, is our next step to serve the <strong>Graves</strong> <strong>Co</strong>unty Farm Bureau membership. The membership is proud to say that we are part<br />
owner of the new building.<br />

After years of managing restaurants in Nashville and Florida, Mark Madrey (aka the<br />
chowmaster) retired to his hometown of <strong>Mayfield</strong> to be near his family. Once here, it<br />
didn’t take long for him to convince his family to join him in a new project, a labor of love,<br />
Chow 45. The entire family pitched in to remodel the little white house at 1102 Paducah<br />
Road and equip the building with new stoves, refrigeration and a “redneck chic” décor.<br />
The concept was very simple-it’s all about the food. Mark envisioned folks from all walks<br />
of life converging on the little white house in search of really good food. He did not want<br />
his restaurant to be traditional or forced into any category. He didn’t want it called a café,<br />
or diner or restaurant--just keep it about the food. He wanted to cook all kinds of chow<br />
and surround himself with a staff that liked to play with food as much as he did. Despite<br />
many people telling him that his “ideas won’t go over in <strong>Mayfield</strong>”, Mark believed that if<br />
you used the very best ingredients, prepared everything from scratch and offered a menu<br />
that constantly changed that people would come. And, come they did.<br />
Now, winding up their second year, chow 45 has become a regional favorite--as famous<br />
for their fried green tomatoes or coffee encrusted ribeye as they are the homemade<br />
desserts or chocolate bacon. Folks drive from miles around “to get their chow on“.<br />
Chow 45 offers an ever changing menu of sandwiches, pasta, steaks, seafood, salads,<br />
appetizers and desserts prepared and served by a dedicated staff that loves to think<br />
“outside the box“.<br />
