Illinois Field Hockey
and Windy City hosted its
second annual Windy City
Field Hockey High School
All-Star Classic Sunday,
Oct. 29, at Northwestern’s
Lakeside Field in Evanston.
The game, played
one day after Lake Forest’s
2-0 win over North Shore
Country Day in the state title
game, featured 40 players
from 21 high schools.
Lake Forest, North
Shore Country Day, New
Trier and Glenbard West,
the top four teams in the
state, each had four players
representing their
squads during the game.
The game ended in a 1-0
win for the Navy squad on
a goal scored by a player
from Edwardsville High
School, the only school
outside of the Chicagoland
area represented during the
game.
22nd Century Media
was at the game and had an
opportunity to talk to team
members from some of the
local schools.
What they’re saying
“It’s an honor to get selected
to play in the All-
Star game, it gives you
a lot of confidence and
shows that you’re playing
with the best people in the
state. The game is really
fun and gives us a chance
just to show everyone why
we deserve to be there and
our achievements throughout
the season.”
-Anya Kavanagh, LA forward
“Being nominated for
the all-star game was definitely
an honor this year. I
went last year as well and
both years it has definitely
been a competitive game
with great players. I didn’t
know a lot of the girls on
my team so it was fun to
play with different schools
and girls of different ages!
The level of play was very
high and competitive but
fun at the same time, and
I think it elevated all of us
to play with the best in the
state.”
-Xas Morgan, NSCDS midfielder
“This is really cool because
I know that field
hockey, especially at my
school is a pretty young
program, so getting involved
with all these
schools that are more experienced
is cool to be in
the mix with all these talented
players and to have
this opportunity. To play
one last game in this setting,
on this field, is an
honor.”
-Nancy Iden, HP forward
“I think it’s a big honor,
showing that everything
I’ve worked for, with my
team, has helped me to get
a place like this and be able
to showcase everything
I’ve been working on. This
weekend’s been surreal,
it’s been awesome.”
-Cat Nicholson, LF midfielder
“This is great. It’s really
fun to be able to play with
everyone because I only
know like half the girls
and they’re from all over.
That’s fun. Playing on this
field is so great. My high
school plays on grass, so
this is quite a change from
that because it’s faster and
easier to move the ball.
That’s what makes it fun.”
-Izzy Moody, LFA defender
“It’s awesome because
a lot of these girls are my
friends and teammates
from club. We haven’t
played much together because
of high school season,
so it’s fun to reunite.
It used to be a little nerve
wracking playing in games
like these, but I forget I’m
an underclassman and go
out and have fun.”
-MJ McNary, GBS defender
