Diego Islas was chosen as Standout Student
for his excellence in the classroom.
What is one essential you must have when
studying?
One essential I must have when I am
studying is earbuds because I feel that studying
with music helps me focus more on what
I am reading.
What do you like to do when not in school or
studying?
Things that I like to do when I am not at
school or studying is hanging out with my
friends, playing sports or listening to music.
What is your dream job?
My dream job for when I am older would
be working for NASA. This is because I am
obsessed with learning about space.
What are some of the most played songs on
your iPod?
Some of the most played songs on my
iPod are electronic or EDM songs like Alan
Walker- “Faded,” Alan Walker- “Spectre” and
Cartoon- “On & On” featuring Daniel Levi.
What is one thing people do not know about
you?
One thing that people don’t know about
me is that I am trying to teach myself how
to play the piano because I think that it could
be cool to play.
Whom do you look up to and why?
Someone that I look up to is my family
friend Eric. I look up to him because he grew
up here in Lockport and he is now in his final
years at Stanford University. This is motivation
for me to do better in school so I can be
very successful.
Who is your favorite teacher and why?
My favorite teacher is Mrs. Valentine. This
is because she makes my favorite school

subject fun and easy to learn. Another reason
is that she makes learning fun with all the
labs we do in class.
What is your favorite class and why?
My favorite class is science class for many
reasons. One of the reasons being that we do
a lot of fun things in this class that help us
learn at the same time. Another reason is that
since other kids like science class it is more
enjoyable for me.
What is one thing that stands out about
your school?
One thing that stands out about our school
is that since it is a K-8 school everyone here
is like a giant family that works together.
What extracurricular(s) do you wish your
school had?
Two extracurriculars that I wish my school
had are electronic music class and foreign language
classes. This is because I think myself
and many others would enjoy these classes.
What is your morning routine?
My morning routine starts by waking up at
6 a.m. almost every day for basketball practice.
I go to practice at 7 to 8 a.m. and I start
school every weekday at 8:30.
If you could change one thing about school,
what would it be?
If I could change one thing about school
it would be that we should invest a bit more
money into the reconstruction of the 09 side
of the school.
What is your best memory from school?
My best memory from school is that I got
a letter saying that I was eligible to join Beta
Club/Junior Honors Society.
