Almost as soon as you have started
the Sixth Form, it will be time for
you to start thinking about what
to do when you leave Ratcliffe. The
majority of our students choose to
stay in full-time education and the
choice of courses and institutions
is potentially bewildering.
There are around 60,000 courses
at well over 100 Universities and
Colleges!
The main questions you will have
to answer - and when - are:
Spring Term, Year 12
• Do I want to study at University
or College? If not, what do I
want to do?
• What do I want to study?
Summer Term, Year 12
• Where do I want to live and
study?
• Do I want to take a GAP year
between School and University?
Autumn Term, Year 13
• Alternatives to University.
As a Sixth Form student, you will
have to put much time and thought
into planning for your future after
you leave School, but you can
be sure of receiving advice and
support from staff as you do this.
The support we offer to students
takes several forms:
Support for Individuals
• Discussions with careers advisers. (Mr Gordon Collins for those
students who received Morrisby feedback in Year 11).
• Careers department facilities (literature, Careers software, Websites).
• Discussions with your Form Tutor and Head of Year.
• Help in arranging work experience.
• Help in arranging careers experience courses.
• Attendance at local Higher Education ‘Taster Days’.
• Access to Gordon Collins Careers Education Newsletter.
• Appointment with Head of Careers (Miss T. Spencer).
• National Careers Service Advice.
• Opportunity to attend presentations from professional external
speakers from varying industries.
Support in Year Groups
• Sixth Form Higher Education booklet.
• Instruction and advice on how to complete relevant forms, completed
by the PSHCE programme.
• Sixth Form Careers Library Guide.
• Shared area on the intranet.
