Finding success after failure - Friendship Comment on the lessons you learn from the stories at By: Ruthie Gindi Yeshivah of Flatbush There was once a girl who left all of her friends for the summer to go to a sleep away camp. She risked losing all her friends to try to make new friends in sleep away camp. At first, she had a hard time fitting in. She felt uncomfortable around those girls. She thought she probably made one of the biggest mistakes choosing to leave her friends. As the weeks went by, she started getting more comfortable around these girls and eventually became best friends with all of them. If she didn’t take the risk of leaving her old friends behind, then she wouldn’t have met her new friends that she has today. We were so close and a couple of months ago things started to change. I couldn’t imagine losing her. I was so scared of letting her go. I know everything about her and she knew everything about me. Now, you might wonder, what’s the problem? Why were you scared of losing her? And the answer is a new girl came along and I felt like she was stealing her from me. I was scared. She didn’t know anyone and she also had speech problems. When she came to school, she forgot about the dress code and everyone laughed. When she was walking down the long hallway, she went to say “Hi” to some girls, but it didn’t come out as expected. She was nervous so her speech problem became bigger. Lauren tried so hard. She even practiced saying the simplest things. She tried again to say easy words so when they come out of her mouth it wouldn’t be weird. But it didn’t work. She cried every night because of this. An idea came to her as her phone beeped. She got everyone’s numbers in the grade and told them her story. When the next day came, everyone said sorry for laughing and offered to show her around the school. She also met a girl just like her. They became best friends. She learned not to give up and the girls in the grade also learned not to judge people unless you know their real story. By: Andrew Stein Hillel Yeshiva On my first day at my new school, I tried to make friends by being nice and playing well. In our first recess, I went to play basketball with the kids in my class but they didn’t include me. So, I decided to shoot on another hoop to show them how good I was so they would include me. When they finally did let me play, I air balled my first two shots. I was so embarrassed by the looks everyone was giving me. So, I decided to start passing instead. They saw that I was good and not selfish.
