Finding success after failure - Performance Comment on the lessons you learn from the stories at By: Naomi Haser Magen David Yeshivah There was a competition of who can write the best song for the play. Rebecca had a great song but you had to perform it. She was too shy and asked her friend if she wanted to sing it for her. Her friend said, “Why should I sing it? You should sing it and get the credit.” On the day of the competition, Rebecca won. But, she only had to perform in front of three judges. On the day of the play, Rebecca was too scared to perform. She asked her friend to please perform instead of her. Her friend said, “No! You perform. You are a great singer.” Rebecca performed and it went very well. The popular girl in the class announces there is a singing contest and she is going to win. Your best friend begs you to enter but you don’t listen. At the contest, the popular girl wins and rubs it in your face. The next time there was a singing contest you entered. A few hours before the contest, you back out. Now you feel bad because you think you never had a chance to win. The popular girl wins again and rubs it in your face even more. There was one final contest that year and you signed up. You get on stage and hear a voice inside you saying, “You’ll fail.” You push that voice away, sing and win. A few years later, you are a well-known singer. That would have never happened had you listened to the Yetzer Hara and stopped trying. By: Adele Saka Hillel Yeshiva Miriam was on stage overcoming her stage fright. There were about 100 people watching her as she just stood there. She tried letting her voice out but nothing came out. She stood there until the backstage crew had to come out to get her and apologize to the audience. Months later, after Miriam had taken more lessons and performed in front of her family and a small audience, she went back up on the same stage. Except this time she was stronger. As she sang the last word, there was not one person sitting and not clapping. By: Lauren Araman Hillel Yeshiva Mary was nervous. She walked on stage in her purple dress. It was happening. She was singing perfectly and hitting every small note. When it was time for her to really stretch a note, she choked. Everyone stared in shock. She just went along and forgot that it happened. When it came time for the second high note, she hit it. It was perfect. This is just to show that you should never give up. She could have stopped and cried, but she didn’t. She continued on and didn’t quit. By: Claudine Hadef Magen David Yeshivah I want to accomplish getting better grades. I’m always on the iPad or computer. It distracts me. I get good grades but I want better. I want an honor roll, but I keep getting distracted whenever I study. Sometimes, I just zone out during the test and forget what I studied. I am going to stop using the computer for as long as I could every night that I have a test.
