n the book of 1 Chronicles 11:22 the bible
makes mention of Benaiah, one of King
David's mighty warriors. The scripture
highlights that it was a very cold and snowy day,
when Benaiah encountered a fierce lion. The
lion was out hunting for food and was out of
luck, with all the animals seeking shelter from
the snow. When the lion saw Benaiah, he locked
eyes with him as though he had seen his arch
nemesis.
The lion opened his mouth, revealing his teeth
likened to that of a spear's edge. The gravel that
fell from his mouth quickly harmonized with the
snow. He flexed all his muscles like a man who
had just awakened his strength from a full
workout at the gym. All signs were pointing to
Benaiah being in serious trouble, everything
about this lion suggested Benaiah's defeat.
Even though Benaiah seemed a bit surprised at
first, he was sobered by fact that he was in the
territory known as the Lion's table. Benaiah was
in an unavoidable position because he had
chased a ram earlier, which he wounded with an
arrow as he hunted his night's dinner. Thoughts
and flashes galloped through Benaiah's mind
about his wife and kids at home. He was driven
by the fact that his father was killed in a battle
with the Philistines when Benaiah was only 2
years old. Sobered from watching his mother
struggle as he grew, Benaiah had sworn to
always provide and protect his family.
All of a sudden Benaiah snapped out of his daze
and the fear subsided. He slowly let down the
ram off his shoulder, gripped his spear that was
covered in the blood of the ram. Benaiah
squared up with the lion and the stare down
began. Just when you thought that Benaiah
would crack, the unthinkable happened. The
lion turned and began to run away from Benaiah
eventually, falling into a pit that was covered by
snow. Although the lion was not greatly hurt, it
was far from delivered because it was now stuck
in a pit.
Benaiah was now standing at the edge of the pit,
staring down on this lion and eventually walked
away. 'I'll be ok now' the Lion surely thought
but in that split second, Benaiah flew through
the air with the intensity of a whirlwind as he
jumped into pit.
Screams and roars could be heard from the pit
and this continued for a few minutes! Suddenly
there was silence.
Then there was the glimpse of a hand as
Benaiah climbed out of the pit. The lion was not
only dead but headless. Benaiah was not willing
to take any chances so he would rather take a
souvenir.
There are many things you can take away
from this story. However, it is integral that
you notice this - you can win in spite of your
existing circumstances and the battles that
are raging within! You can also win if you are
hungry enough to fulfill your life's promises,
plans and purpose.
