Enveloped by the wonderful Northumbrian landscape
positioned close to the historic Hadrian’s Wall, the
contoured fairways of the two 18 hole golf courses of
Close House demand strategy, ingenuity and, most importantly,
concentration. Close House became attached
with former World number 1 golfer Lee Westwood in
2011 and engaged him to redesign the courses to
meet 21st century demands.
Westwood worked with Scott Macpherson, Golf Course
architect, who carefully planned the ‘Colt Course’
around the existing well established trees, lakes and
vegetation to fit with an intended old fashioned design.
Since 2013, the further enhanced Championship standard
course spans 160 acres of the Tyne Valley while
Close House's ‘Filly Course’ is situated in the lower
grounds of the estate itself, providing stunning views of
the river. This course's undulating USGA greens provide
a real test for a golfer's putting skills, but accuracy off
the tee is paramount for good scoring. Having already
held PGA professional events the course has proved fun
but challenging to golfers of all abilities.
Accommodation:
After an invigorating day of golf, guests may enjoy a
contemporary dining experience at the No.19 clubhouse
or even indulge themselves further by staying over night
in the suite-style courtyard rooms of Close House.
