News from the Lunch Club
We had a very busy year in the Lunch Club as it
appears to be getting more popular. We now have 33
members coming along for lunch every week and also
have a waiting list of people who would like to join us. We would love to say yes to everybody
but it would be unfair on the kitchen staff who work so hard preparing these meals every week,
as we are all volunteers.
Our first celebration was 1st March on St David’s Day, when we decorated the tables with the
Welsh emblems (daffodils, flags, Welsh dolls and leeks) which all looked very decorative.
Thank you for all the support we received, at both of our coffee mornings held in May and
November; it was lovely to see so many people coming in for a coffee and chat with friends.
On 7th June, we had a trip to Carmarthen for our annual meal at the Bush Inn; this was
followed by a ride on the Gwili Steam Railway which was thoroughly enjoyed by everybody.
Our second trip was on 13th September to Barry Island where we enjoyed a meal in a local
restaurant and then visited a garden centre before travelling home.
We have had lots of ‘special’ birthdays to celebrate this year when our members have brought
along birthday cake and wine which was appreciated by everybody.
We finished the year with our Christmas lunch, beautifully cooked by our kitchen staff and,
once again, thank you to the Dunvant Rugby Club Choir for coming along to wait at the tables
and then entertain us with carols.
For the past 3 years, we have been successful in gaining a lottery grant for our outings but this
year it has been ‘re-launched’ under another name and we were unsuccessful but still hope to
be arranging an outing to Brecon in the Spring.
Have you got something you would like to say? Read a good book? Seen a good film or play? Had
a good holiday? Recommend a recipe? Gardening tips? Something interesting or funny happened
to you? Tell us about it. There is a post box at the back of church – just drop in your contributions
and we will share them in the magazine. Or e-mail to reesfolk@btinternet.com Articles for the
magazine can be submitted any time up to the last Sunday of the month for publication the
following month.
