seems to have fallen out of favour at this
time. Josh has just passed grade 7 with
Distinction. He played ‘Valse Vanite’ by
Rudy Wiedoeft.
Then, it was our turn to join in this lovely
concert. With Chris on the piano and
Lynne and the performers on their
instruments, we all sang ‘O Come All Ye
Faithful’. Lynne is a teacher in Craigfelin
and Craigcefnparc schools where she
teaches music and signing. You can
guess what came next….she taught us to
sign ‘Away in a Manger’ - 3 verses! It was
quite a challenge but so interesting and
worthwhile. Then we all went back to our
Infant School days when a variety of bells,
triangles, castanets etc were distributed
for us to play ‘Jingle Bells’.
To calm us down after our contribution,
Chris took to the piano and played a
lovely melody called ‘Autumn Crocus’ by
Billy Mayerl. Then Johanna Blanck, a
Swedish young lady from Three Crosses,
played a Georges Geelo concerto on the
tenor saxophone - superb! Earlier this
year, Johanna passed grade 8 with
Distinction.
Finally, another wonderful treat from
Cesia Rees. Cesia won the under 16
woodwind competition at this year’s
National Eisteddfod on the flute. We were
all amazed and delighted by her
interpretation of ‘Concertino’ by
Chaminade.
What a wonderful evening of superb
music and some fun too. Pat Stratton
echoed all our admiration and enjoyment
in her vote of thanks.
We ended by joining together to enjoy
mince pies, stollen and mulled wine, tea
and coffee.
