Ruddock condemns Baha’i
Death Sentence in Yemen
Hornsby Shire Mayor Philip Ruddock has joined the local Baha’i community
in expressing outrage over the death sentence of Hamed bin
Haydara in Yemen.
Mr Haydara, who has been detained since
2013, received the death sentence on Tuesday
January 2 on charges of disseminating
the beliefs of his faith and spying for Israel.
“I have been approached by members of
the Baha’i community over this matter and
I strongly agree with their concerns,” Mayor
Ruddock said.
“It is appalling to see the religious freedom
of any group challenged in such a fundamental
way.
“I have had close contact with the Baha’i in
Hornsby Shire over many years and they are
a valuable part of our local community.
“I share their anger over this matter and
I join them in voicing my outrage at such a
gross violation of human rights.”

Mikey the Powerful Owlet
