a recent visit from Enviro
Schools Canterbury
Diamond Harbour School’s
environment group, the Green
Diamonds, and some of the
school’s future problem-solvers
recently welcomed Toni and
Andrea from Enviro Schools
Canterbury.
The pupils sang the school
waiata for their guests and
then talked about what the
school is doing to embed the
five Enviro School principles.
They include:
•Empowering pupils by
giving them opportunities
to work together for
the betterment of the
environment.
•Helping to develop
sustainable communities
through initiatives like the
school garden and hen house.
•Ensuring Diamond
Harbour School encourages
understanding about
sustainability,
•And supporting the values
of manaakitanga (generosity)
and diversity.
Pupils took Andrea and Toni
for a walk around the school to
show what takes place.
After all agreeing Diamond
Harbour is at the Enviro
Schools silver level, we
celebrated with some kai.
We would like to thank Ms
Pears for all her support along
this journey, Nat for making
our visual-vision picture a
reality, Denissa for coming
along as our board of trustees
member, Rob our caretaker,
who we hope we have not
frightened with the projects we
would like to bring to fruition,
and also Niki and Lisa for
reflecting with us on the day.
Next generation robotics
A Diamond Harbour School all-girl group has taken
out second place in the theatre section of the
national RoboCup Junior competition in Dunedin. The
‘Bobbleheads’ robotics team of Poppy (left), Molly, Abby,
Anna and Fern, created and presented a performance
involving three robots (Allison, Captain Bobina and
Digital Flowers), which acted out an original story
created by the team. It was an exceptional achievement
for the girls, who were competing in the competition for
the first time.
