spoiling the much-used park, there is
always the driving range land.
Sarah Ruane – Christchurch School
of Gymnastics is not a private company,
it is a not-for-profit society. The current
site is at risk of flood – every time
it rains, the foam pits flood. There are
more than 1000 young people using this
facility, from little kids doing recreational
gymnastics through to New Zealand
representatives. These young people work
incredibly hard and they deserve a facility
that meets their needs. I really hope
the Coastal-Burwood Community Board
recognises just how much support there
is for the rebuild in the local community.
Karen Beaumont – There is plenty
of land there, just cannot understand why
they wanted to take away a much-used
sports field, just so it could be right next
door to the pool for a quick swim. Use
the old driving range land, no problem.
Steve Potter – Why could people not
use both facilities still, even if it was on
the same site as now? I’d say that’s not a
good enough reason to move it (I know
there will be other reasons, too). The
whole perimeter of QE II is only 2.1km so
easy to still use both.
Maria Mann – Hope it gets rebuilt
on same site as I take our granddaughter
there every Monday in school term.
Barbara Price – It needs to move
from the current site to where the water
table isn’t high. The current site has a
water table at 1m in wet weather since the
quakes. The water comes into the pit in
heavy rain.
Wendy Stanton – Sounds perfect.
Do it, just get things in motion.
Les Hibbard – Dan O’Sullivan seems
to be calling the pot black, or is it a case
of sauce for the goose is sauce for the
gander. Isn’t QE II to become Crown land
with two schools being built there? If
that’s the case, then do they want a track
round the boundary, with it’s inherent
problem with miscreants.

The new Swimsmart
Membership is here!
The new Swimsmart membership
offers a new approach to learning to
swim. Swimsmart members will get free,
unlimited access to all Christchurch City
Council pools outside of regular lesson
times. This provides kids with extra
opportunities to practise their swimming
skills!
Customers will now be able to enrol for
a membership that offers up to 48 weeks of
lessons per year. The new membership also
allows customers to pay on a more regular
basis via direct debit instead of paying for
a full term up front.
Grading of children’s swimming skills
occurs on a regular basis, so they can move
up a level as soon as they’re ready. If there’s
no space available at that level at a suitable
time, your child will go on a waitlist and
get some advanced instruction at their
current level.
