A GRATEFUL HEART
IS A BLESSED HEART
I remember one day
while praying, I asked God,
“Jesus, please grant me the
grace to see blessings in every
situation.” God definitely
listens to us and if He knows
it’s good for us, He will give
it.
As a preacher, I make
sure to give my best talk
every Friday at the Feast SM
Manila. I make sure that I
have enough time to prepare
and practice my talk. Usually,
I leave early from our home
at Meycauayan to be able to
have enough time to reflect
before I start my preaching at
our Feast. As I was traveling
NLEX on my way to Manila,
I got caught with an unusual
traffic somewhere along
Valenzuela exit. The inner
me want to react with anger
saying, “Ang aga naman
ng traffic na ito! Kaya nga
ako umalis ng maaga paara
makapaghanda pa!” It was a
slow moving traffic at NLEX.
At the moment that I was
tempted to become angry, but
then, I choose to be grateful.
I decided that since it’s traffic,
I could pray the rosary and
offer it to the attendees,
servants and my mission on
that blessed day.
After I prayed (yes, I’m
still stuck at the traffic!),
I decided to bring out my
laptop, my clicker and
started rehearsing my talk
for that afternoon. I got
new jokes, new stories and
new reflections. As I end my
practice, I noticed that I was
already near SM Manila.
I was on time for the 1st
session, I am all set and
prepared for my talk and I
believed, I have delivered one
of my best talk with Jesus that
night.
I choose to be grateful,
and God choose to blessed
my heart.

Personal Reflection and Group Discussion
Between goals (achievements) and gratitude (appreciation),
where is your strength? What do you
need to work on more? How?
THE POWER OF AND
WHEN I was much
younger, the world balance
wasn’t in my vocabulary.
Instead, words like all-out
and radical and total were my
favorites. In my ignorance,
I thought balance was just a
cop out for cowards.
But as I got older –
and, I hope, wiser through
experience – I realized many
times, life is about achieving
harmony between two
opposite forces. Let me give
you a very simple example:
work and rest.
In my youth, I was a
workaholic and wore it as
a badge of honor. But as I
grew older, I began to value
rest as essential to health and
happiness.
In this series, Fullness
we talk about how to be free
from the tyranny of OR and
welcome the power of AND
into our life.

How to Begin with the And in Mind
Talk 1: Goals AND Gratitude
Proverbs 16:3 NIV
Commit to the LORD whatever you do,
and he will establish your plans.
Genesis 39:2-6 NIV
The Lord was with Joseph so that he
prospered, and he lived in the house of
his Egyptian master. When his master
saw that the Lord was with him and that
the Lord gave him success in everything
he did, Joseph found favor in his eyes
and became his attendant. Potiphar put
him in charge of his household, and
he entrusted to his care everything he
owned. From the time he put him in
charge of his household and of all that he
owned, the Lord blessed the household
of the Egyptian because of Joseph. The
blessing of the Lord was on everything
Potiphar had, both in the house and in
the field. So Potiphar left everything
he had in Joseph’s care; with Joseph in
charge, he did not concern himself with
anything except the food he ate.
Philippians 4:6-7
Do not be anxious about anything, but
in every situation, by prayer and petition,
with thanksgiving, present your requests
to God. And the peace of God, which
transcends all understanding, will guard
your hearts and your minds in Christ
Jesus.

I know what it is to be in need, and I
know what it is to have plenty. I have
learned the secret of being content in
any and every situation, whether well fed
or hungry, whether living in plenty or in
want. 13 I can do all this through him
who gives me strength.

Our Mission Possible

Fr. Jeff Aytona revealed last Friday
that we have a mission to bring others to
happiness by leading them closer to Jesus
and letting them feel the same love we have
experienced from Him.
“As brothers and sisters in Christ we
ought to be friends to one another. And
because we are friends to one another our
concern for our friend, primarily, is to bring
them to happiness,” he said in his homily
during the Holy Mass celebration of The
Feast SM Manila at SM Manila Cinema 4.
“The only one who can give us the real
happiness, the only one who can heal us of
all our infirmities, who can work wonders in
our lives is no other than Jesus.”
As illustrated in the Gospel reading
Mark 2:1-12, Fr. Jeff mentioned that it was
not only through the sole effort and faith of
the paralytic that he received Jesus’ healing
and forgiveness but it was also through the
care and faith of his four friends who had
brougwht him closer to Christ by carrying
him through the roof.
Moreover, Fr. Jeffemphasized that we live
not only just to save ourselves and be filled
with all the blessings of God but we are also
meant to share what we are blessed with to
others.
“Only those who are blessed can bless
others. Only those who know Jesus can
introduce Jesus. Only those who understand
the love of the Lord have the capacity to
love their neighbors,” said Fr. Jeff to remind
us that we cannot give others what we do
not have.
Remembering that we are healed,
forgiven, and blessed, the priest presider
also encouraged everyone to share all these
miracles in our lives to bless everyone – most
especially the members of our family.
Loved and Forgiven

Bro. Philip Sumera reminded everyone
last Friday that we are loved because nothing
could ever stop God from loving us.
“Walang makakapigil sa Diyos na
mahalin ka. Kahit magtago ka pa, kahit
lumayo-layo ka pa walang ibang gagawin
ang Diyos kundi puntahan ka, sundan ka,
at mahalin ka,” he said during the first and
second session of The Feast SM Manila
during the Big Day celebration in conclusion
of the Full: I Have Enough series at SM
City Manila Cinema 4.
Bro. Philip said that there are three
shapes of love namely the heart, the cross,
and us.
As heart is the most common shape
of love, the first and second session leader
shared that everything we do should always
come from our heart and should always be
done with love.
The cross is God’s way of showing us just
how much he loves us for it is through the
cross that we are saved. He shared that God
is always with us making sure that we are
always safe and secured.
Lastly, he shared that we are also a shape
of love as he reminded everyone to share the
love that we have received from God because
love is meant to be shared.
He added that we must never let go
of our faith especially in times of troubles
because God will always make a way, all we
need is to hold on to Him and never let go.
Sharing the same message of love, Doc
Ryan Capitulo said during The Feast SM
Manila MD session that The Feast’s main
goal is to make each and every one of us
experience that we are loved by God every
time we attend a Feast session.
Stating the story of the paralyzed man
who was healed and forgiven due to his
faith, The Feast SM Manila MD session
leader added that faith, alone, is enough for
Jesus to forgive us.
“If you trust God’s love for you, your sins
are forgiven,” he said.

I remember November 30, 2017. My
day started with a prayer, God’s word,
and a short reflection. I don’t know what
happened, but as I was looking at the busy
street from the glass window in 7-Eleven,
I felt a sudden rush of admiration for every
person that walked by. Suddenly, everybody
seemed so beautiful. No earthly beauty
standard mattered. I am not sure if it was
Mama Mary’s intercession, the message of
the scripture or my usual prayer of “Lord,
help me see people through Your eyes.”
That convinced the Spirit to make me see
the masterpieces before me. I realized that
God truly made everyone beautiful, and the
discriminating beauty standards on earth
are absurd in Heaven.
I remember December 24, 2017. It was
Christmas Eve mass, and my nose bled
because of the high temperature inside the
church. I went out after communion. The
cool breeze of the wind and the unusual
number of people welcomed me. Suddenly,
I felt like crying tears of joy. I was so

blessed to see them there. Nothing else
mattered.
I don’t know if it was the desire to go
out, my joy found in the Eucharist or my
short prayer of “Lord, what do you want
me to do?” that convinced the Spirit to
make me understand love in a deeper sense.
The magnitude of God’s love is greater
than our sins, no matter how big or how
small. He always rejoices when we come
back to him.
This story is not about me. This is
about you and the love of the God who
loves you beyond words. He celebrates with
you in times of joy. He helps you as you
pick up your broken pieces, and get rid of
the toxic pieces, renew the good old ones
and give you perfect fragments. He simply
never leaves. He makes all things beautiful
in His time. He created time, and He
knows what He’s doing.
His eyes are set on you like you’re
the only person there is. You are His
masterpiece. Because of it, you are a
champion, wherever you are and whatever
your purpose is. You are enough. You are
incomparable. You are beautiful inside and
out, even when you feel otherwise. God
made you. No standard of this world will
beat that.
We were not made for this world. We
were made to be filled with His love that
never runs out and share it. With this love,
we live and love. I would sometimes pray
to feel the way I did during those fateful
dates. But, alas, more than a feeling love is
a choice.
Whenever we check our reflections,
may we remember how we are fearfully
and wonderfully made. May we see the
same need to be loved in the eyes of other
people and make them experience, with
sound mind, the love of Jesus made known
to us. Perhaps love doesn’t have to be
complicated. It just has to be real. And we
know where we can find a love like this.
