A GRATEFUL HEART<br />
IS A BLESSED HEART<br />
I remember one day<br />
while praying, I asked God,<br />
“Jesus, please grant me the<br />
grace to see blessings in every<br />
situation.” God definitely<br />
listens to us and if He knows<br />
it’s good for us, He will give<br />
it.<br />
As a preacher, I make<br />
sure to give my best talk<br />
every Friday at the Feast SM<br />
Manila. I make sure that I<br />
have enough time to prepare<br />
and practice my talk. Usually,<br />
I leave early from our home<br />
at Meycauayan to be able to<br />
have enough time to reflect<br />
before I start my preaching at<br />
our Feast. As I was traveling<br />
NLEX on my way to Manila,<br />
I got caught with an unusual<br />
traffic somewhere along<br />
Valenzuela exit. The inner<br />
me want to react with anger<br />
saying, “Ang aga naman<br />
ng traffic na ito! Kaya nga<br />
ako umalis ng maaga paara<br />
makapaghanda pa!” It was a<br />
slow moving traffic at NLEX.<br />
At the moment that I was<br />
tempted to become angry, but<br />
then, I choose to be grateful.<br />
I decided that since it’s traffic,<br />
I could pray the rosary and<br />
offer it to the attendees,<br />
servants and my mission on<br />
that blessed day.<br />
After I prayed (yes, I’m<br />
still stuck at the traffic!),<br />
I decided to bring out my<br />
laptop, my clicker and<br />
started rehearsing my talk<br />
for that afternoon. I got<br />
new jokes, new stories and<br />
new reflections. As I end my<br />
practice, I noticed that I was<br />
already near SM Manila.<br />
I was on time for the 1st<br />
session, I am all set and<br />
prepared for my talk and I<br />
believed, I have delivered one<br />
of my best talk with Jesus that<br />
night.<br />
I choose to be grateful,<br />
and God choose to blessed<br />
my heart.<br />

where is your strength? What do you<br />

THE POWER OF AND<br />
WHEN I was much<br />
younger, the world balance<br />
wasn’t in my vocabulary.<br />
Instead, words like all-out<br />
and radical and total were my<br />
favorites. In my ignorance,<br />
I thought balance was just a<br />
cop out for cowards.<br />
But as I got older –<br />
and, I hope, wiser through<br />
experience – I realized many<br />
times, life is about achieving<br />
harmony between two<br />
opposite forces. Let me give<br />
you a very simple example:<br />
work and rest.<br />
In my youth, I was a<br />
workaholic and wore it as<br />
a badge of honor. But as I<br />
grew older, I began to value<br />
rest as essential to health and<br />
happiness.<br />

The Lord was with Joseph so that he<br />
prospered, and he lived in the house of<br />
his Egyptian master. When his master<br />
saw that the Lord was with him and that<br />
the Lord gave him success in everything<br />
he did, Joseph found favor in his eyes<br />
and became his attendant. Potiphar put<br />
him in charge of his household, and<br />
he entrusted to his care everything he<br />
owned. From the time he put him in<br />
charge of his household and of all that he<br />
owned, the Lord blessed the household<br />
of the Egyptian because of Joseph. The<br />
blessing of the Lord was on everything<br />
Potiphar had, both in the house and in<br />
the field. So Potiphar left everything<br />
he had in Joseph’s care; with Joseph in<br />
charge, he did not concern himself with<br />
anything except the food he ate.<br />

Our Mission Possible<br />

Fr. Jeff Aytona revealed last Friday<br />
that we have a mission to bring others to<br />
happiness by leading them closer to Jesus<br />
and letting them feel the same love we have<br />
experienced from Him.<br />
“As brothers and sisters in Christ we<br />
ought to be friends to one another. And<br />
because we are friends to one another our<br />
concern for our friend, primarily, is to bring<br />
them to happiness,” he said in his homily<br />
during the Holy Mass celebration of The<br />
Feast SM Manila at SM Manila Cinema 4.<br />
“The only one who can give us the real<br />
happiness, the only one who can heal us of<br />
all our infirmities, who can work wonders in<br />
our lives is no other than Jesus.”<br />
As illustrated in the Gospel reading<br />
Mark 2:1-12, Fr. Jeff mentioned that it was<br />
not only through the sole effort and faith of<br />
the paralytic that he received Jesus’ healing<br />
and forgiveness but it was also through the<br />
care and faith of his four friends who had<br />
brougwht him closer to Christ by carrying<br />
him through the roof.<br />
Moreover, Fr. Jeffemphasized that we live<br />
not only just to save ourselves and be filled<br />
with all the blessings of God but we are also<br />
meant to share what we are blessed with to<br />
others.<br />
“Only those who are blessed can bless<br />
others. Only those who know Jesus can<br />
introduce Jesus. Only those who understand<br />
the love of the Lord have the capacity to<br />
love their neighbors,” said Fr. Jeff to remind<br />
us that we cannot give others what we do<br />
not have.<br />
Remembering that we are healed,<br />
forgiven, and blessed, the priest presider<br />
also encouraged everyone to share all these<br />
miracles in our lives to bless everyone – most<br />
especially the members of our family.<br />
Loved and Forgiven<br />

Bro. Philip Sumera reminded everyone<br />
last Friday that we are loved because nothing<br />
could ever stop God from loving us.<br />
“Walang makakapigil sa Diyos na<br />
mahalin ka. Kahit magtago ka pa, kahit<br />
lumayo-layo ka pa walang ibang gagawin<br />
ang Diyos kundi puntahan ka, sundan ka,<br />
at mahalin ka,” he said during the first and<br />
second session of The Feast SM Manila<br />
during the Big Day celebration in conclusion<br />
of the Full: I Have Enough series at SM<br />
City Manila Cinema 4.<br />
Bro. Philip said that there are three<br />
shapes of love namely the heart, the cross,<br />
and us.<br />
As heart is the most common shape<br />
of love, the first and second session leader<br />
shared that everything we do should always<br />
come from our heart and should always be<br />
done with love.<br />
The cross is God’s way of showing us just<br />
how much he loves us for it is through the<br />
cross that we are saved. He shared that God<br />
is always with us making sure that we are<br />
always safe and secured.<br />
Lastly, he shared that we are also a shape<br />
of love as he reminded everyone to share the<br />
love that we have received from God because<br />
love is meant to be shared.<br />
He added that we must never let go<br />
of our faith especially in times of troubles<br />
because God will always make a way, all we<br />
need is to hold on to Him and never let go.<br />
Sharing the same message of love, Doc<br />
Ryan Capitulo said during The Feast SM<br />
Manila MD session that The Feast’s main<br />
goal is to make each and every one of us<br />
experience that we are loved by God every<br />
time we attend a Feast session.<br />
Stating the story of the paralyzed man<br />
who was healed and forgiven due to his<br />
faith, The Feast SM Manila MD session<br />
leader added that faith, alone, is enough for<br />
Jesus to forgive us.<br />
“If you trust God’s love for you, your sins<br />
are forgiven,” he said.
I remember November 30, 2017. My<br />
day started with a prayer, God’s word,<br />
and a short reflection. I don’t know what<br />
happened, but as I was looking at the busy<br />
street from the glass window in 7-Eleven,<br />
I felt a sudden rush of admiration for every<br />
person that walked by. Suddenly, everybody<br />
seemed so beautiful. No earthly beauty<br />
standard mattered. I am not sure if it was<br />
Mama Mary’s intercession, the message of<br />
the scripture or my usual prayer of “Lord,<br />
help me see people through Your eyes.”<br />
That convinced the Spirit to make me see<br />
the masterpieces before me. I realized that<br />
God truly made everyone beautiful, and the<br />
discriminating beauty standards on earth<br />
are absurd in Heaven.<br />
I remember December 24, 2017. It was<br />
Christmas Eve mass, and my nose bled<br />
because of the high temperature inside the<br />
church. I went out after communion. The<br />
cool breeze of the wind and the unusual<br />
number of people welcomed me. Suddenly,<br />
I felt like crying tears of joy. I was so<br />
Into His Eyes<br />

blessed to see them there. Nothing else<br />
mattered.<br />
I don’t know if it was the desire to go<br />
out, my joy found in the Eucharist or my<br />
short prayer of “Lord, what do you want<br />
me to do?” that convinced the Spirit to<br />
make me understand love in a deeper sense.<br />
The magnitude of God’s love is greater<br />
than our sins, no matter how big or how<br />
small. He always rejoices when we come<br />
back to him.<br />
This story is not about me. This is<br />
about you and the love of the God who<br />
loves you beyond words. He celebrates with<br />
you in times of joy. He helps you as you<br />
pick up your broken pieces, and get rid of<br />
the toxic pieces, renew the good old ones<br />
and give you perfect fragments. He simply<br />
never leaves. He makes all things beautiful<br />
in His time. He created time, and He<br />
knows what He’s doing.<br />
His eyes are set on you like you’re<br />
the only person there is. You are His<br />
masterpiece. Because of it, you are a<br />
champion, wherever you are and whatever<br />
your purpose is. You are enough. You are<br />
incomparable. You are beautiful inside and<br />
out, even when you feel otherwise. God<br />
made you. No standard of this world will<br />
beat that.<br />
We were not made for this world. We<br />
were made to be filled with His love that<br />
never runs out and share it. With this love,<br />
we live and love. I would sometimes pray<br />
to feel the way I did during those fateful<br />
dates. But, alas, more than a feeling love is<br />
a choice.<br />
Whenever we check our reflections,<br />
may we remember how we are fearfully<br />
and wonderfully made. May we see the<br />
same need to be loved in the eyes of other<br />
people and make them experience, with<br />
sound mind, the love of Jesus made known<br />
to us. Perhaps love doesn’t have to be<br />
complicated. It just has to be real. And we<br />
know where we can find a love like this.<br />
