CASHMERE HIGH were<br />
crowned Thompson Trophy<br />
champions after a hard fought<br />
62-60 win over Christ’s College<br />
in the division one final<br />
last week.<br />
Down by seven in the final<br />
quarter, Cashmere dug deep<br />
with Mitch Mahon hitting the<br />
match-winning basket with<br />
15sec to go.<br />
Cashmere coach Ben Sheat<br />
said it was a great reward for<br />
all their hard work and to do<br />
it in front of such a big Cashmere<br />
crowd was “awesome”.<br />
“The game was a real battle<br />
as expected. The boys stuck<br />
with the processes and kept<br />
believing in our systems and<br />
managed to pull it out in the<br />
last 15sec,” Sheat said.<br />
Connor McLaughlin collected<br />
19 points, seven assists and<br />
five rebounds, backed up by<br />
Ruben Stanley with 11 points<br />
and Nic Wenmoth with 10.<br />
Defensively, Cashmere’s<br />
Oki Tilaia stuck like glue to<br />
Christ’s best player Max De<br />
Geest, something Sheat said<br />
was a major key to the victory.<br />

a few days before turning their<br />

High School 56-51 to lift the<br />
