Pastor to lead new school board<br />

SOUTH WEST Baptist Church<br />
pastor Warren Read has been<br />
appointed board of trustees<br />
chairman for the new primary<br />
school which will open in<br />
Halswell.<br />
Pastor Read, Sarah Lowe<br />
(deputy chairwoman), Amanda<br />
Wall, Giarne Harrison and<br />
Rodney King make up the<br />
board for the school, which<br />
will be sited in Knights Stream<br />
Park.<br />
The school will open in<br />
January 2019.<br />
The school, which has not yet<br />
been given a name, will cater<br />
for up to 450 pupils from year<br />
1-8.<br />
Mrs Lowe is a preparatory<br />
music director at The Cathedral<br />
Grammar School, Mrs Wall is<br />
a senior adviser at Regenerate<br />
Christchurch, Mrs Harrison is<br />
a mother of two children with<br />
a background in education,<br />
advocacy, community service<br />
and administration and Mr<br />
King is a guidance counsellor at<br />
Oxford Area School.<br />
Mr Read said he’s “excited<br />
to be part of a great team who<br />
have been appointed to set up<br />
the new school. I look forward<br />
to meeting the community in<br />
the days to come.”<br />
Mr Read said his family<br />
built their house in the area<br />
three years ago and they love<br />
being part of the Halswell<br />
Community.<br />
He said he has had significant<br />
experience serving on a school<br />
board and a number of other<br />
trusts. Mr Read explained the<br />
school was needed due to the<br />
projected population growth in<br />
the Halswell area.<br />
A second stage is already<br />
planned for when the school<br />
expands.<br />

for a roll of 700 pupils and<br />
would include more teaching<br />
spaces.<br />
The board of trustees has a<br />
busy 18 months in front of it.<br />
It will decide on the school’s<br />
values, buying resources and<br />
appointing a principal.<br />

SPARKS RD FOOTPATH<br />
The Halswell-Hornby-Riccarton<br />
Community Board may pull<br />
the plug on the new footpath<br />
proposed for Sparks Rd. After<br />
a negative response during the<br />
community engagement process,<br />
city council staff recommended<br />
the board not build a footpath for<br />
the area. The board will discuss<br />
other options tonight at its<br />
meeting.<br />
BOYS’ HIGH OPENS HALL<br />
The first step in Christchurch<br />
Boys’ High School’s $32 million<br />
upgrade is finished. The school<br />
has unveiled its new $4.66<br />
million hall, which has seating<br />
for 1350 students. Headmaster<br />
Nic Hill said the hall was an<br />
important milestone in the<br />
school’s overall rebuild. He said<br />
the school is aiming to create<br />
spaces that won’t date. The next<br />
step is in the upgrade is designing<br />
the classroom block.<br />
“Now is the moment we’ve been<br />
waiting for. It’s time. This is our<br />
opportunity to build a better, fairer<br />
future for New Zealand. To fix our<br />
healthcare, grow our economy,<br />
respect our environment and to look<br />
after our towns as much as our cities.<br />
