Sabiang Thai is Avalon
Beach’s newest dining
destination – and if you’re
craving some traditional
Thai ‘street food’ fare as well
as hearty curry favourites,
you’ll come away licking
your lips at the menu
The Mill: small bar, big vision
Restaurant-goers
are spoilt for
choice in Avalon but if
you’re looking to get
together with friends
for a late-afternoon
drink, a small bite
or something more
substantial, you need
to know where to go.
Stepping up to the
‘plate’ with renewed
energy is The Mill @
Avalon Beach, with a
revamp to its offerings
and vibe at its welcoming
modern space in Avalon
Parade.
Owner Nathan Livotto
(above left) has joined forces
with industry-renowned chef
Hayden Ellerton, who has
crafted a new-look menu,
which will feature market-fresh
produce to complement the
extensive range of cocktails,
wines and beers (including
micro-brewery draughts).
“After four years, the run-in
to this summer gives us the
opportunity to refresh things,”
said Nathan.
“We want people to know
we have great, sophisticated
mains and substantial sharemeal
options, so they can stay
and relax rather than grab a
quick drink and think about
where to move on to dinner.
“Our aim is to provide
the right atmosphere, great
drinks and variety of quality
dining options so they can
settle in and really enjoy our
small bar experience, which
includes great live music
Friday through Sunday.”
Hayden said he was looking
forward to creating
new offerings for the
menu every couple of
weeks, based on the
availability of seasonal
produce.
A current ‘wow’
dish is Hayden’s
moreish Kingfish
Ceviche with blood
orange, stinging
nettles and bottarga
(right) – the ideal
‘small bite’ that goes
great with a glass of
Semillon or crisp beer.
There’s a selection of
French and Spanish cheeses,
schiacciata (Italian flat bread)
with prosciutto, roast garlic
and parmesan, while large
share plates include Baked
Snapper, celeriac remoulade,
watercress, coriander seed
and lemon.
“We are a small bar
producing contemporary,
tasty, thoughtful bites,
including beautiful oysters,
delicious pizze and wellexecuted
main-size meals
