MARVEL COMIC - BLACK PANTHER MOVIE VIEWING<br />

Acorn to EXcellence is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization founded<br />

to promote interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and<br />

Mathematics), entrepreneurship and business related fields. Acorn<br />

to EXcellence in association with the Epsilon Chi Chapter of Iota<br />

Phi Lambda Sorority will host a movie viewing event for the highly<br />

anticipated Marvel Comic ‘BLACK PANTHER.’ During the reception<br />

meet the “community superheros and sheroes” comprised of<br />

professionals, athletes and business people who have made an<br />

impact to society.<br />

This will be a fun-filled event for adults and children. Special guests,<br />

private reception, door prizes and more! Tickets are tax deductible<br />

and are $20, which includes reception, seating, drink and popcorn.<br />

SPORTING CLAY TOURNAMENT FUNDRAISER<br />

Once again, The Ballard House will be having its annual Sporting<br />

Clay Tournament Fundraiser at the Westside Sporting Grounds<br />

(Brookshire, TX) on Saturday, <strong>February</strong> 24, <strong>2018</strong>.<br />

Executive Director, Kathy Alt states, “This is an important time in<br />

the life of our organization after being effected by Hurricane Harvey.<br />

The Ballard House is still rebuilding and will reopen soon and be<br />

even bigger and better than before due to all the hard work of our<br />

volunteers and people in the greater Katy area.”<br />

The Sporting Clay Tournament is tremendous in helping to raise the<br />

necessary operational funds to keep the doors open at The Ballard<br />

House. Teams compete with their shooting skills for fun and fundraising<br />

to benefit this great cause. Teams and individuals can register on the<br />

website or by calling the number provided. Lots of sporting activities<br />

are planned throughout the day with the tournament starting at 9<br />

AM and concluding with lunch and a program. The Ballard House<br />

provides a safe, family-friendly environment and home-away-fromhome<br />

for those undergoing life threatening illnesses and treatment in<br />

the Houston area, all at no-cost. Patients come to The Ballard House<br />

CANCER WALK<br />

FEBRUARY 25, <strong>2018</strong><br />

Due to the massive flooding the Katy<br />

community experienced as a result of<br />

Hurricane Harvey and the continued<br />

efforts to recover from the devastation it<br />

caused, the Reign Over Cancer (“ROC”)<br />

Walk has been postponed until Sunday,<br />

<strong>February</strong> 25, <strong>2018</strong>. The walk will be held at<br />

Cane Island and will begin at 2 PM. Plan to stick around after the walk<br />

to enjoy complimentary food and beverages, music and family-friendly<br />

activities.<br />

The ROC Walk will recognize people in the community currently<br />

undergoing cancer treatment, highlight survivors and raise money<br />

to fund GEST Foundation grants. Register as an individual or a team<br />

online at www.GESTfoundation.org. Proceeds from the ROC Walk will<br />

provide grants for services including grocery delivery, home cleaning,<br />

home wound care, transportation or even counseling to help with the<br />

internal wounds that come with facing the news “you have cancer.”<br />

The walk will be fun for ALL ages, so grab your family and friends and<br />

join us at the beautiful Cane Island for an afternoon of fun while raising<br />

money for a very important cause.<br />
