ENGINEERS.
Dance
We’re partners with Dance City, the biggest
name in dance in the North East.
Exploring contemporary dance or commercial dance, this taster will give those
who are serious in pursuing a career in this field an insight into what it’s like to study
with Gateshead College at Dance City. Pupils will take part in a fun, relaxed dance
class taught by one of our team, followed by a brief Q&A.
In addition, we encourage potential students to come along to see our current
students’ dance performances in January each year. Subject to ticket availability.

Early Years & Childcare
Energy, enthusiasm, and imagination – all essential characteristics of those hoping
for a successful career in early years and childcare.
In this taster session, pupils will spend time considering what other characteristics,
experience and skills employers in this industry look for in a potential employee.
They’ll get to create their own placement profile as if they were applying for a real
work placement, as well as finding out more about the variety of careers in this
sector.
Engineering
Inspiring the next generation of engineers, our engineering taster gets pupils
designing and developing fully working pneumatic systems, giving them an
understanding of how programmable logic control works.
When delivering this taster session in schools, pupils will participate in an intergroup
competition, assessing an engine and its hydraulics to see who can be first to
get their engine running.
Hairdressing
Pupils will get to join our professional hairdressing team at our commercial salon
– Botanica, recreating all the latest hairstyles whilst finding out more about our
hairdressing programmes.
Those interested in studying hairdressing with us can also book an appointment for
a free hair treatment for a later date, when they will have the opportunity to speak
to our current hairdressing students.
