Measurement becomes nanoprecise<br />
Wittenstein, the mechatronics drive specialist, will unveil the<br />
IDS3010, an Industrial displacement sensor with sub-nanometer<br />
resolution at the upcoming Hannover Messe <strong>2017</strong>. IDS3010 is<br />
ultra-compact, highly dynamic and a contactless inteferometric<br />
measuring sensor. With a data acquisition bandwidth of 10 MHz, it<br />
can simultaneously track targets in up to 3 axes at velocities of<br />
2 m/s. The sensor provides 10-12 m position resolution and<br />
reaches working distances of up to 5 m. As officially confirmed by<br />
the German National Metrology Institute (PTB), IDS3010 enables<br />
accuracies previously unheard of in industrial position sensing.<br />
The sensor is also compatible with extreme conditions such as<br />
ultra high vacuum, very high or low temperature or radioactive<br />
environments. This innovative sensor can be used to calibrate<br />
machine tools, detect vibration amplitudes in machines, measure<br />
the concentricity of motor shafts,<br />
crankshafts and camshafts or implement<br />
ultra-precise pick-and-place<br />
robotic applications, for example<br />
in the semiconductor industry.<br />

New manufacturing facility in Romania<br />
for Timken’s roller bearings<br />
As a global supplier of tapered roller bearings, The Timken<br />
Company is all set to increase its market share in Europe, with the<br />
opening of another production plant in Romania. The existing<br />
plant in Romania manufactures large-bore roller bearings. The<br />
new plant will be located nearby and will complement the existing<br />
manufacturing sites for tapered roller bearings in France, Italy and<br />
Poland. This means the company is geographically well-positioned<br />
to be more responsive to customer needs at peak times. The new<br />
facility will have 120 new employees on a space of 15,000 m 2 .<br />
At Hannover Fair, Timken will discuss how optimized<br />
materials, surfaces, geometries, and designs can<br />
benefit manufacturers and end-users by helping<br />
reduce noise, support higher loads and prolong<br />
service life. Timken is also presenting a newly<br />
extended range of spherical roller bearings and<br />
a wide range of long-lasting and low-maintenance<br />
couplings.<br />
