Wildflowers were gathered from hedgerows for country maids who wove them
into dainty circlets with vines like ivy, but Queen Victoria created the fashion for
a crown of fragrant orange blossom by wearing one for her wedding in 1840. Orange
blossom represented both purity and fruitfulness. When real orange blossom
was unavailable, wax replicas were created instead and became very popular in the
1920’s.
