Jacob, the modular pipework company, is now in<br />
its new logistics centre to better serve customers<br />

new logistics centre in Porta<br />
Westfalica, Germany to better<br />
serve its markets in the UK, across Europe<br />
and the rest of the world.<br />
The new 7,500 sq m hi-rise logistics<br />
centre has 13,800 pallet locations holding<br />
over 5,500 parts and standard components<br />
for the extensive range of modular<br />
pipework sections and segments. Standard<br />
wall thicknesses are 1-3mm, with diameters<br />
from 60mm to 1600mm in galvanised,<br />
stainless-steel and powder coated finishes.<br />
“The new logistics centre will improve<br />
our ability to reduce order delivery times<br />
and enhance the operational efficiency of<br />
the supply system to meet customer needs<br />
in the UK and around the world,” says<br />

To cater for its business expansion,<br />
educational publisher and distribution<br />
services provider Cengage has installed<br />
a LogisticsPRO warehouse management<br />
system to operate in conjunction with<br />
a new belt/roller conveyor system<br />
from UPM Conveyors at its 60,000sq ft<br />
distribution facility.<br />
UPM was responsible for the total<br />
£350,000 turnkey project which,<br />
since commissioning, has delivered<br />
immediate improvements in speed and<br />
efficiency, according to Carrie Willicome,<br />
distribution director at Cengage.<br />
In operation, LogisticsPRO downloads<br />
order data to the UPM PC which is then<br />
transferred to the barcode readers to<br />
divert boxes to the appropriate picking;<br />
packing and shipping areas. At each<br />
stage, the conveyor system sends data<br />
back to LogisticsPRO, keeping the status<br />
of each order continuously updated.<br />
