Paul Wicks died in December
Sad passing
of loyal
supporter
Paul Wicks, chairman of Showlite,
the contracting company that
has helped put together and
stage the PPMA Show since its
inception in 1987, tragically passed
away before Christmas.
Paul accompanied the
PPMA on the journey to flagship
UK event over the last 30 years
from its humble beginnings in
Telford. He worked on every
single edition of the show, firstly
as an electrician and for the last
25 years with the company
he founded, Showlite. “We can
certainly attribute the continued
growth of PPMA down in part
to the smooth and seamless
build up on the show each year,”
says PPMA exhibition director
David Harrison who has worked
closely with Paul for all of this
time. “We have shared the same
business values – integrity,
honesty, service and trust – over
the years and we have been able
to completely rely on Paul and his
team to deliver,” he continues.
Paul Slaney, md at Showlite
said Paul was one of the true
gentlemen of the industry and
proof that a successful business
is about the people working
in it. “He inspired loyalty from
everyone he met, his team and
so many people over the years.
“Our thoughts are with his
wife Julie, his children, family
and friends,” he said.
Visitor registration
is now open for the
2018 Machine Vision
Conference and Exhibition
which takes place on
Wednesday 16 May at Arena
MK, Milton Keynes.
The day will follow a similar
format to the inaugural event
held last year with over 40
exhibitors demonstrating
the latest vision technology
products and services signed
up for a stand so far, and more
than 50 seminars across seven
different presentation theatres
planned. Many of these
exhibitors are new to the event.
“We are putting together
an educational conference
programme which includes
a wide cross-section of
topics with plenty to interest
newcomers to vision as well
as highly experienced vision
engineers and everyone in
between,” says conference
event organiser, Christine
Valdes. In 2017, presentations
involving 3D imaging proved
to be the most popular but one
of the new themes for the 2018
conference is ‘Deep learning’.
Deep learning is one of the
‘hot topics’ in the world
of machine vision just now.
The themes for all seven
presentation theatres are:
Understanding vision
technology, 3D Vision, Deep
The first industry-led event last year proved very popular with the visitors
learning and embedded vision,
Optics and illumination,
Vision innovation, Systems
and applications, and Camera
technology.
Local MP Iain Stewart will
open the event once again.
“I was delighted to be able
to open UKIVA’s inaugural
event in 2017, which proved
to be highly successful and
am very pleased that the
Association has once again
chosen Milton Keynes as the
venue for 2018’s gathering.”
His opening address will take
place at 9.45am and will be
followed by the first keynote
presentation at 10am.
The full conference
programme will be published
on the Conference website
in the coming weeks.
