How Two Bandits Met Christ 

John Walada, a graduate of the West Africa Advanced School of Theology 

In Lome, Togo, a Togolese missionary to Chad, was on his way home from 

three weeks of teaching at a Bible school in Cameroon when the roadside 

bandits accosted him. As he took in the scenario in front of his car, John’s 

mind raced through possible escape plans. Should he step on the gas and 

try to swerve around the two gunmen? The faces of his wife and two children 

played before his eyes. Would he make it home to see them again? 

Then John’s fear began to subside. God impressed on him that he was 

to speak to the men. He obediently brought the vehicle to a stop and rolled 

down the window. Two angry, hate-filled faces lowered themselves to John’s 

level and locked eyes with him. “Take us to the the next town,” one of the 

men growled. He flung open the car door and took the seat beside John. The 

other bandit climbed into the back seat. Both men sat poised, clutching their 

weapons. John glanced between the road and his rearview mirror, watching 

the man sitting directly behind him. He handed each of his hijackers small 

tracts about Jesus. Silence reigned in the car as the men read. 

“Have you heard of the man Jesus?” John asked. One bandit had 

heard the name a handful of times; the other never had. Boldly, John began 

telling the men about Jesus Christ–Savior of the world and Forgiver of all 

sins. “Do you want Him to be your Savior?” he asked. Immediately the man 

beside John responded, “I want to know this Jesus you have talked 

about.” The man in the backseat confessed that he wanted to know Jesus 

as well. John stopped the car and all three men climbed out. The repentant 

criminals knelt in the middle of the road as John put his hands on 

them and prayed. The men gave their hearts to Christ and the unlikely trio 

resumed their journey. At the next village, John gave them directions to the 

local church and the name of its pastor. Today, both of the former bandits 

continue to serve Jesus Christ.

your head, a job, your health, your family, etc….you will come to see how blessed you really are! 

*Retrain the way you think 

Do you ever beat yourself up mentally? Do you ever feel inadequate? Are you guilty of using negative self-talk? STOP! The more you talk negatively to yourself, 

the more negative you will become. Retrain your brain to stop doing that to yourself! Practice positive thinking. Whenever a negative thought enters your mind, 

replace it with a positive one. In time this will seem more natural and your brain will automatically turn a negative thought into a positive thought. 

*Exercise 

Exercise is good for your body, and your mind. Exercise releases natural endorphins in our brains that make you feel better. Exercise has both physical and 

mental/emotional benefits. Any type of ‘moving around’ whether you go to the gym, take Zumba or aerobics classes, or simply go for a nice long walk, will help 

keep your body, and mind, in shape. Yoga and meditation are also excellent ways to help fight off negative thoughts and feelings. And all of these ‘exercises’ will 

boost your self-esteem and make you feel positive! 

These are only four ways to help you to think positive, stay positive. Learning how to think positive is not something you can achieve overnight. It is something 

that may take time to master. But when you do, you will live a more happy, content and fulfilled life!

Prep time: 10 to 15 minutes 

Chill time: 1 hour to overnight 

Bake time: 7 to 12 minutes 

Yield: 24 to 30 cookies 

1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened 

3/4 cup firmly packed light 

brown sugar 

1 cup granulated sugar 

2 large eggs 

1 teaspoon vanilla extract 

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour 

1/3 cup cocoa powder 

1 teaspoon baking soda 

1/2 teaspoon salt 

1 3/4 cups M&M’S Milk Chocolate 

Minis Candies 

1 cup chopped walnuts (optional) 

Preheat oven to 350°F. 

In large bowl, cream butter and both 

sugars until well blended. Add eggs and 

vanilla extract, and mix to combine. 

In separate bowl, sift flour, cocoa 

powder, baking soda and salt. Slowly add 

dry ingredients to butter mixture, and stir 

until combined. 

Fold in candies and walnuts, if desired. 

Chill dough 1 hour, or overnight. 

Drop dough by rounded tablespoons 

onto lightly greased tray, about 2 inches 

apart. 

Bake for 7 to 9 minutes for chewy 

cookies, or 10 to 12 minutes for crispy

Bake time: 30 to 40 minutes 

Yield: 32 brownies 

4 ounces semisweet chocolate 

1 cup canola or vegetable oil 

2 cups sugar 

4 eggs 

1 teaspoon vanilla extract 

1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour 

1 teaspoon baking powder 

1 teaspoon salt 

2 cups M&M’S Peanut Butter 

Candies, divided 


Lightly grease a rectangular 13 x 9 x 

2-inch pan 

In 3-quart saucepan, gently combine 

the semisweet chocolate and oil over 

very low heat until melted. Remove 

from heat and allow to cool. 

In separate bowl, combine sugar, 

eggs and vanilla extract until blended. 

Add in chocolate mixture. Slowly sift 

in remain ing dry ingredients and mix 


Fold in 1 1/2 cups candies. 

Spread batter into pan. Sprinkle with 

remaining 1/2 cup candies and press 

lightly. 

Bake until brownies begin to pull 

away from sides of pan, about 30 to 

40 minutes.

Combine chopped candy bars with 

ricotta, sugar and orange zest. 

Spoon mixture into resealable bag 

and snip off a 1/2-inch corner. Fill 

cannoli shells by squeezing in filling 

from each end.

Batten Disease currently has no treatment, no cure, and is not preventable. The disease causes toxicity within specific cells found in the brain, 

retina and central nervous system. Children are generally born healthy and grow normally until one day the progression of Batten Disease shows 

it’s colors. Initial symptoms are usually seizures, vision deterioration or loss of intellectual function. Those affected suffer progressive neurological

These sweet twin sisters born in May 2017 

were found abandoned in a home under 

foreclosure. They are playful, loving, and 

enjoy being cuddled on your lap. 

Melissa and Tina are bonded sisters. They 

would like to be adopted together, but we don’t 

require it. If you do not want to adopt both, you 

must have another kitty friend for them to play 

with. They are good with my son, but will not 

tolerate a child who will chase them. They will
