Brand New Year with the GCBA
The New Year is here and the German
Canadian Business Association (GCBA) is
excited about doing more business in 2018!
A business association provides its members
with opportunities to network and share
information & resources. They also help to
promote cultural, business and professional
interests.
As a German business association, they also
further good relations amonst the Germanspeaking
population, & support associations,
institutions, charities and churches that help
Germans.
The first event of the New Year will most likely
be a casual pub night for an opportunity to meet
new members and greet the returning ones. In
February, they will have their Annual General
Meeting for members only. In March there will
be a Spring dinner meeting and in April there
will another visit to BCIT. In May, there will be
some kind of outdoor event, such as a dinner
cruise and they usually hold their last meeting
before summer with a Pub Night on a patio.
There are 4 levels of membership:
Full Business Member
Associate Member
Corporate Member
Student Member
Past events include a dinner meeting in
the Bauhaus Restaurant, owned by former
filmmaker Uwe Boll & a lovely Christmas Gala in the
Royal Vancouver Yacht Club. The Christmas Gala had
entertainment provided by the S-Bahn Band and a Raffle
that made over $400 and included over 22 prizes. There
was dancing and dining and delicious desserts. The GCBA
also met at the Vancouver Christmas Market, to enjoy
Gluehwein and the Christmas Spirit, while new member
Robert Holler was kind enough to purchase Bavarian
Pretzels for everyone.
In the last several months, the GCBA has seen at least 5
new members join the Association and one new corporate
member. A big thanks goes out to Beatrice Schreiber, the
President, and the other members of the Board, who are
working hard behind the scenes to organize events, find
new sponsors, recruit new members and attend a variety
of meetings. They wish everyone a very merry Christmas
and a Happy New Year!
