Doing it Differently
Many meeting and conference organisers are
determined to ‘do things differently’ and often request
that of us when asking our help with the design.
But what is different? Different venue? When we
were asked to bring a group together from around
the world and help to do something different to
bind them as a team, we walked up to the top of a
mountain and sang together at sunrise. Memorable
meeting, and different for sure. Different set-up of a
space? You don’t have to do cabaret tables of 8 just
because it’s normal.
Different catering. Yes.
Different transport. Why not?
Different take-aways. Of course
But mostly, different is about changing the
experience for people.
Break the rules, don’t go with the status quo. It
doesn’t have to be 5 presentations with slides to fill
the day, or an expo to walk around. It really can be
anything you’d like it to be.
TIPS TO REMEMBER:
• Create an experience- events are much
more memorable when people are actively
participating and immersed
• Bear in mind what different is like for your
own organisation- the levels will differ for
every company
• Be bold from the start- it will open your event
up to a whole world of possibilities
