Police Reports
Batteries go missing from Winnetka and Northfield utility boxes
Tianna
The Avril family
of Winnetka
Tianna loves
to lick, receive
belly rubs, get
any bit of hot
sauce she can
and spend her
time sleeping in
laundry baskets
with fresh
clothes. Along
with daughter
dog, Beatrice,
she loves to use her impressive, harmonizing howls
to accompany any flute or recorder. If you want to
hear a two-dog show of any of your favorite songs,
pull up the notes for a recorder and you will be met
with screeching whines and barks!
On Feb. 2, a complainant
from Comcast Corporation
reported that someone
stole 24 Marine batteries,
worth $230 each, from
unsecured utility boxes
in four locations across
Winnetka and Northfield.
$5,520 total was lost and
police detectives are further
investigating the incident.
THE GLENVIEW LANTERN
Gubernatorial candidate
Kennedy makes stop in
Glenview
Despite his deep and
distinguished roots on
the East Coast, Chris
Kennedy set out for
Decatur, Ill., after college.
He said he wanted to
help feed America, and
getting a job with food
processing giant Archer
Daniels Midland was
the best way to learn the
industry.
Three decades later,
Kennedy’s own roots
in the Land of Lincoln
are inextricable. He has
served as the president
of the Merchandise Mart,
the chairman of the board
at the University of Illinois
Urbana-Champaign
and the co-founder of
local nonprofit Top
Box Foods.
Now, Kennedy is seeking
election to the state’s
highest office.
The eighth child of
Robert and Ethel Kennedy
made an appearance at the
Glenview Park Center on
Wednesday, Feb. 7, to talk
about his campaign as a
Democratic candidate for
governor.
After introducing
himself and recounting
his unusual path to the
gubernatorial race, the
Kenilworth resident
fielded several questions
from the nearly 50
people in attendance.
While he addressed a
variety of issues facing
Illinoisans, Kennedy
repeatedly circled back
to the main themes of his
campaign: education and
tax reform.
The Democratic primary
election will be held
March 20.
tersection — it’s just awful,”
he said. “[Members
of my family have] almost
been hit there several
times.”
Rintz expressed his
support for the plan, saying
it was “a budget saver
in a lot of ways.” He suggested
that jurisdictional
transfer and grant money
might also assist in funding
the DMP.
Residents and local
stakeholders also weighed
in.
Lorraine Hughes, of
the classic Winnetka European
car club Fuelfed,
expressed her concerns
about the loss of parking
on Elm Street Bridge,
which she worried might
interfere with Fuelfed’s
special events during
warmer months. Rintz
responded that the plan
would cost a few spaces
on Elm Street Bridge but
that such a change would
not be “the end of the
world.”
Mitra Ryndak, owner of
Cafe Aroma near the Elm
Street Bridge, also voiced
her concerns. She noted,
“the bees are unbelievable”
when people throw
cans of pop into the trash
can in front of her restaurant
and requested that the
trash can be moved. She
also expressed her interest
in improved lighting
in the area. Rintz agreed
with her and noted that
this would be part of the
DMP.
The final Master Plan
should be presented
on Tuesday, April 17,
following additional
meetings.
