2019: APC'll remain ruling party

APC, Asiwaju Bola
Tinubu yesterday boasted
that the party would still
win the 2019 presidential
election.
Asiwaju Tinubu who
spoke after a closed-door
meeting with President
Muhammadu Buhari at
the Presidential Villa, also
told former President
Olusegun Obasanjo and
ex-military President,
General Ibrahim
Babangida (retd) who
recently advised
President Buhari not to
contest the 2019 election
to go home and enjoy
their retirement.
The former Lagos State
governor accompanied by
the pioneer chairman
(interim) of APC, Chief
Bisi Akande, said the
concern of every Nigerian
now was how to build a
formidable country.
Fielding question on the
chances of the APC to win
the 2019 presidential
election, he said: “You are
asking me an obvious
question. I belong to this
party. My commitment is
for this party. We have a
better chance and we are
strongly determined to
prosecute the election in
the most transparent,
democratic manner and
we will win.”

On his appointment by
President Buhari to head

Obidigwe, the Special

One of his reasons for
the call is what he termed
‘gross incompetence’ of
Tony Nwoye and his
inability to represent the
people of Anambra east
and west constituency
properly in the green
chamber.
Obigwe disclosed this in
a statement he issued in
Awka on Sunday.
According to him,
“Chinedu Obidigwe,
Akaoma jide aku olue
where we are from, all
those challenges, what
we should do and I am
enjoying the challenges
so far.”
Commenting on Chief
Obasanjo and General
Babangida advising
President Buhari not to
contest the election, he
said, “I don’t address
those shadows. The
question is, we should let
our former presidents
enjoy the retirees’ club
and take their pensions,
but participate in our
politics if they are interested
because it is a free world.
This freedom is not served
a la-carte, it is taking but
we should be allowed to
move our country forward,
it is a challenge to every
Nigerian.”

Foundation holds seminar
on sickle cell disorder
LAGOS—IN a bid to
improve knowledge
of Nigeria healthcare
practitioners on current
management of sickle cell
disorder, the Sickle Cell
Foundation Nigeria,
SCFN, will next week
organize a seminar for
doctors and nurses from all
the geo-political zones of
Nigeria in Lagos.
The seminar billed to
hold 20 through 22
March, 2018 at the
National Sickle Cell
Centre, opposite the
Lagos University
Teaching Hospital,
LUTH, Idi-Araba, Lagos,
is designed to update
the practitioners on the
current skills and
management techniques
essential for the care of
people with SCD.
The National Director
and Chief Executive
Officer, SCFN, Dr. Annette
Akinsete, in a statement,
noted that sickle cell
anaemia was the
commonest genetic
disorder in the world and
most prevalent in tropical
Africa.
“Nigeria, by virtue of her
large population has the
greatest number of affected
persons. One in 4
Nigerians (25 percent) has
the sickle cell gene. In other
words, over 40 million
Nigerians are healthy
carriers of the sickle cell
gene and over 150,000
Nigerian children are born
each year with sickle cell
anaemia.
''This is by far the largest
burden of SCD anywhere
in the world and most of
these children would die in
childhood from ignorance
and lack of access to
appropriate care. Hence,
the importance of this
seminar cannot be
overemphasised.
“The objectives of the
proposed seminar are to
recognise the clinical
features of patients with

their socio-economic

Consumers decry poor
power supply in Awoyaya
is frustrating. For the
past weeks, we have
been forced to live in
darkness without any
explanation. It has really
affected the socioeconomic
activities here
because there is no
business that can strive
in darkness. We believe
the transformer is bad
and in need of
replacement else the
problem will be far from
over if repaired again.”
On the power
situation, the General
Manager, Corporate
Communications, EKEDC,
Godwin Idemudia, called
for calm, as the company
was putting in place
structures to tackle the
crisis.
