The Secretary’s Jottings Good afternoon everyone. Welcome to Woodstock. Welcome to the players, Officials and Supporters of East Grinstead Town and also this afternoons match officials and representatives from our main sponsors, ArrivaClick and Drakes Plumbing. Todays match is sponsored by the Carpet Centre so welcome and thanks to them also. After postponements at South Park and here versus Ramsgate and Walton Casuals, its great to be back! Obviously, the big news is that Nick Davis, our manager for the past three seasons, has, along with Tony Cornwell, resigned. Nick and Tony worked really hard during that time and the committee are very grateful for all they have done. In particular, having to build a complete new team this season after losing most of the players from the previous season. Unfortunately Nick and Tony felt that they could not live within our budget, a budget that has been set to avoid us being in the red at the end of the season therefore safeguarding our future. Anyway, we move on and I would like to welcome Aslan Odev as our interim manager. Obviously, football is a results business and Aslan knows that, but we were all impressed with Aslan’s vision for the club and sincerely wish him success. I know that you will welcome him and give him your <strong>full</strong> support. Literally, within minutes of Nick’s resignation being announced, we had our first application (despite us never advertising the post.) By the next day we had had over twenty applications. As a committee though, we felt that with only a couple of months of the season to go, we wanted minimum disruption, so we all felt that giving Aslan the opportunity was the right thing to do Appointing Aslan continues our tradition of giving a chance for someone to manage at this level for the first time. You will remember many of them, Steve Lovell, now of course Gillingham Manager (Steve was actually our manager 3 times!.) Richard Brady, now chairman of Leatherhead), Gary Abbott, Mark Beeney, (Now a youth coach at Chelsea) , Matt Wyatt, Nick Davis himself and others. OK some were more successful than others but generally we have never regretted it. Just an explanation now why budgets must be tightly controlled . We have to find money for the dressing room renovation that has to be completed by March 2019 because of FA rules. —they have to be a minimum of 18 square metres. We are very grateful to have been awarded grants from the KCC and Swale Council to help with this but we still have to find a significant sum ourselves. Also we want to improve facilities for our wonderful fans and that money has to come from somewhere! Next match for us is next Saturday when we are away to Corinthian-Casuals, directions to the ground are in this programme. Dates for your diary starting with rearranged games: Tuesday 6th March Ramsgate Home, Tuesday 13th March Walton Casuals Home, Tuesday 20th March South Park Away. Club events: Friday 13th April, Music Quiz hosted by Peter Finch of BRFM. 7.30PM start. Saturday 21st April (after our home game with Carshalton Athletic) Presentation Evening for the first team, more info to follow. Friday 27th April, General Knowledge Quiz, more info to follow.
