MOUNTAIN OF HOPE: BRINGING LIVING WATER TO
HONDURAS
For 20+ years, St. Peter’s has participated in mission and ministry
to our sister congregation of Iglesia San Pedro in the village of
Quince de Enero, Honduras. Through the efforts of Mountain of
Hope, a medical/dental clinic operates 2 days a week in that community
providing health care for rural residents. Each year a
mission team serves alongside the Honduran villagers extending
“living water” through sharing the Gospel and drilling wells. Over
the years, the Hondurans have become mission leaders who are
supported by the U.S. team; they have truly “learned to fish”.
Here are some highlights from 2017:
• Mountain of Hope Clinic provided medical and dental care for 2800 rural Honduran residents.
• Glenys, a young Honduran girl, was brought to the U.S. for diagnosis and treatment of a rare disease (A.T.). She is
home and continues to receive medical support from Mountain of Hope.
• The pharmacy was replenished with over 500 pounds of donated medicines and supplies.
• Clinic operations expanded to include dispensing reading glasses and sunglasses.
• 25 Midwives received training and supply kits donated by Florida Hospital.
• Mission Bible School leadership team facilitated discussions with community leaders culminating in a
communication process of collaboration rather than conflict.
• The Bible School welcomed 180+ children ages 3-13 for worship, Bible stories, crafts, games and snacks.
• Structural beam in church sanctuary was strengthened as a temporary repair. Major structural repairs are need
on the church’s walls, trusses and roof.
• Clinic cabinetry was replaced, dental operatories were upgraded with new chairs and lights. All electrical,
drywall and plumbing repairs in clinic compound were completed.
• Bodega (warehouse) tool and supply storage areas were demoed and replaced with new modern rooms with
fans and lights. 7000 sf metal roof replaced the leaking 50+ year old roof.
• Wells were drilled in 9 new communities and 1 High School providing clean, safe drinking water to thousands
living in rural areas. Water … both physical and spiritual … is highlighted in our time together in Honduras.
The 2018 Mission to Honduras is scheduled for June 9th – 17th. All volunteers are welcome … there is a job
for everyone who wants to experience the life-altering power of Christ in Honduras. When you dedicate your
gifts and talents in service as God intended, you will be empowered and experience a deep sense of joy.
