The CEC Team
Welcome back to all our
loyal clients of CEC.
With the Cape running dry we are so thankful for all the rain we have been
receiving so far this season! With Autumn just around the corner there are
lots of happenings here at the stable yard.

Welcome to the following riders who joined CEC
during the month of February 2018: Charlotte
and Conner van Onselen, Vincent and Quentin
van Graan as well as Duné du Plessis.
Some new faces will make their way to CEC during the next
few months as we will be getting in some more horses and
ponies which will be available for sale.

CEC SHOWS AND
OTHER EVENTS
Our first Training show for 2018 was a TREMENDOUS
success. Thank you to all the riders who participated as well as
our Paramedic, Kirsty, Coursebuilder Ehlana, Photographer
Corinne as well as all the instructors and marshalls who
helped on the day.
Also a HUGE THANK YOU to our sponsors – Lee-Ann &
Jenna-Lee dos Santos, ASAP spare parts as well as Platia
Restaurant at Emperors palace (Thank you Claire for
organizing it).
Our next preliminary date for a show at CEC is 21 April
2018. Please diarize it as we are planning to have a Super
Duper show with LOADS of sponsored prizes for all the
riders!

HORSE-PITAL
• CLIENTS: PLEASE ENSURE you have the following items CLEARLY marked with your horse’s
name in your horses’ box at their stable or paddock as we will not be able to properly
treat minor wounds, tick infestations or mange without the following: Tick Grease, Iceman/
deep ice/arnica ice, Wound aerosol (Purple spray), Wound ointment (dermavet/agrisulph),
hoof and sole hardener, Stockholm tar, milking cream, shampoo treatment for mange (F10).
• Horses who need to be treated for mange, ticks, minor wounds or hoof problems without
the above items available in their horses’ box will be treated with CEC products and clients
charged with R150 per treatment – please remember that the ONUS is on the owner
of the horse to ensure we have the necessary items to look after your horses’ well-being.
• We have received news that the Equine Clinic at Onderstepoort has re-opened their
doors from 5 February 2018. For more IMPORTANT information, please click HERE.
• Clients, please ensured your horses are insured for a critical care cover of
at least R80 000 by either Equipage, Kuda or Onesure. Above Article has
some cost estimates should your horse require medical attention in-hospital.
• Medici had a bad case of sweet itch which was resolved with
the advice of one of our awesome vets dr. Tanya Hornschuh.
• The Equine Dentist was at our yard on 13 and 14 February and is generally very
happy with the oral condition of our horses’ mouths. Some horses need to be seen
again during August 2018 for their dental follow up and each horses’ teeth report is
available inside the office at Charlene – Clients: please fetch your horses’ teeth report.
• All horses and ponies will receive their Equine influenza vaccine inoculations on Saturday
24 February 2018 after all the riding lessons are completed: The veterinarian is coming on
this specific day so that the horses can have a day’s rest after receiving the vaccine as some
horses might develop a slight fever reaction. The batch number for the vaccine is L449280.
• PLEASE take note the next Equine influenza vaccination is due during August 2018.

• The horses’ chiropractor KIM DYSON will be coming to visit during the first week of March
2018. Please inform Charlene if you want your horse to be seen by the Chiropractor (We
strongly advise a chiro session at least once a year, unless your horse has a specific problem
and needs more sessions)
NEIGHS-FLASH
• With the second SANESA school show around
the corner, please book your instructor WELL IN
ADVANCE if you require instructor assistance at
the show. The cost per rider for instructor assistance
is R400 per day for a Pretoria show venue. If the
venue is in JHB the cost per rider is R500 per day.
Nicolene and Corinne are our resident instructor
who will be accompanying students to shows.
• We are continually fixing up broken paddock poles as we go, re-painting of paddocks with
Carbolineum will commence during February 2018, PLEASE Do not put your horse in a
paddock if the gate is closed and the water bucket is turned upside-down as this means
the paddock is still wet and the Carbolineum product burns the horses’ skin.
• Please remember that there is ALWAYS a rider on horseback when entering the main
gate which gives access to the premises of CEC. Please stick to the speed limit of 40 km/h
and please be on the lookout for riders on horseback who might be riding around on the
farm as well as our famous ‘bokkies’. We appreciate your consideration.

• We always appreciate it when our clients have questions, concerns and comments about
the stable yard. Please feel free to contact Melindi 084 760 8450 or Charlene 072 076
1804 to discuss any of the mentioned above. Please Respect our business hours as we
stop taking calls and responding to text / whattsapp messages from 6:30 pm. In the event
of an emergency after hours eg. a Sick horse, the owner of said horse will be contacted in
order to arrange veterinary or hospital care.

Note to stabling &
riding clients:
• Our yearly planner (subject to
change) as well as our fees for 2018
can be viewed by clicking HERE.
• The Saddle fitter Andy Taylor
will be coming to fit saddles on
Saturday 24 February 2018. It
is vital to ensure your horses’
saddle is fitted correctly and we
urge clients to make use of this
opportunity to have their saddles
flocked and fitted as Andy is very
busy and only comes round once a
year to our yard at CEC. Cost per
saddle fitting is R650 and needs
to be paid in CASH to Charlene
before 24 February 2018.
• We have CEC club shirts available
in the office at R450 per shirt.
• If we do not have your size in stock,
we will order it and have it readily
available within 2 weeks. Please
take note that CEC riders who
partake at our CEC shows and
other training shows are required
to wear our CEC club shirts
• NO rider is allowed to jump
fences in the cross country area
without an instructor present and
the rider wearing a body protector.
Remember guys that these jumps
are SOLID, and should only be
attempted under the watchful
eye of one of our instructors. If

• Please remember that NO
RIDER is allowed on horseback
at CEC WITHOUT wearing a
RIDING HELMET! Please guys,
this is for your own safety and
most horse-related injuries
are head injuries. Always
better to be safe than sorry.
• Riders having Lessons at
Countryside Equestrian
Centre – Please remember
that we work on a 24 hour
notice period for Cancellation
of Lessons. It has happened a
few times where riders don’t
show up for their scheduled
riding lesson where the horse
/ pony has been saddled up
and is ready to work. In these
events our instructors WILL
NOT catch up the riding lesson
missed unless in the event
of an EMERGENCY. Our 24
hour notice period enables
the instructor to then book
in another student who might
have missed a lesson and thus
the instructors’ time is not
wasted as ALL our instructors
work on a commission basis
with regards to lessons given.
• Clients: Please remember if
you would like to discontinue
riding lessons or stabling at
CEC we need to receive one

How an equine chiropractor
can help your horse:
Signs of a sore or uncomfortable horse can manifest itself in different ways; this article will give
some good insight to everyone as to why a horse needs to be seen by an Equine Chiropractor
on a regular basis.
While good riding and a properly fitting saddle are instrumental in caring for our horses’
backs, many horses (and riders) benefit from chiropractic treatment, as part of holistic care.
Chiropractors focus on the skeletal structures of the horse, and use manual manipulations to
bring these structures back into their proper alignment.
If your horse is experiencing any of these symptoms or behavior issues, chiropractic treatment
may be helpful:
• Difficulty bending or flexing
• Obvious back or neck pain
• Difficulty picking up leads at a canter
• Signs of resistance such as bucking,
rearing, swishing tail
• Uneven gaits
• Difficulty with gait transitions
• Spooking
• Bolting
• Head tossing

• Uneven shoulders or hips
• Crabby while being groomed
