Ex-military men have no business in
politics — OLURIN

IBADAN — AS the
three musketeers in
Nigerian journalism
profession were celebrated,
yesterday, a former military
governor of the old Western
region, Gen. Adetunji
Olurin (retd) has declared
that former military men
have no business in
politics.
Olurin said this at the
presentation of a book,
titled: ‘The Three
Musketeers’, written in
honour of late Peter Ajayi,
Chief Olusegun Osoba and
Mr Felix Adenaike, which
held at the Premier Hotel,
Ibadan.
According to the former
governor of the defunct
Western Region, his short
foray into politics left a bitter
pill in his mouth and would
never venture into it again.
Recalling his bitter
experience when he was
nursing the ambition of
becoming the governor of
Ogun State, he said: “I will
never go into politics again.
A military man has no place
in politics.”

I'm vindicated, says Fayose
•Expresses concern over missing Yobe school girls
EKITI State Governor,
Mr Ayodele Fayose
has described the new
report by Transparency
International, TI, revealing
that the perception of
corruption in Nigeria
worsened between 2016
and 2017, as another
vindication of his position
that the All Progressives
Congress, APC,
government of President
Muhammadu Buhari was
not fighting any corruption.
According to him,
"Transparency International
only confirmed what I have
said before that President
Buhari is only hiding under
anti-corruption fight to
harass his perceived
political foes while
protecting corrupt people in
his government.”
He also expressed
concern over the reported
abduction of 94 pupils of
the Government Girls
Technical College, Dapchi,
Yobe State, appealing to the
federal government to
ensure that the remaining
girls are found and stop
lying to Nigerians that the
Boko Haram insurgency
had been “completely
defeated.”
In a statement by his
Special Assistant on Public
Communications and New
Media, Lere Olayinka,
Governor Fayose said it was
painful that despite the
earlier claim by the federal
government that Boko
Haram was “technically
defeated” and the latest one
that the insurgency was
“completely defeated”,

Administration, said the
Three Musketeers’ stock of
social capital was so
immense that they dared to
walk where angels feared
to tread.
He said: “That was the

Only LP Rep member decamps to ACP
THE only member of
Labour Party in the
House of Representatives,
Mr Segun Ogunwuyi,
yesterday, decamped to the
All Progressives Congress,
APC, saying that he
defected with the consent of
his constituents.
The lawmaker represents
Ogbomoso North/South/
Oriire Federal Constituency
of Oyo State in the House.
The lawmaker’s notice of
defection was read by the
Deputy Speaker, Mr. Lasun
Yusuf who presided over the
plenary session.
The notice read in part, “I
wish to notify you and the
entire House that I have
defected to the All
Progressives Congress,
abducted in Yobe State in
just one day.
He said: “My heart goes
to those 46 students that are
yet to be found and I urge
the federal government
as well as the Yobe State
government to do all
within their powers to
bring the students back
to their families."

decision are as a result of
the factionalisation in the
Labour party that
sponsored my election into
the House of
Representatives.
“Presently, there are two
persons laying claim to the
position of the National
Chairman of the party with
its attendant factional
National Executive
Committees.
“After wide consultations
with my constituents, I have
been advised to formally
defect to the All
Progressive Congress so
that we can together
actualise our vision of
moving our constituency,
Oyo State and Nigeria at
large forward.
“This action is in tandem
with the provisions of
Section 68 (1) (g) of the
constitution of the federal
republic of Nigeria 1999 (as
amended),” he announced.
Addressing newsmen,
the lawmaker stated that he
defected with the consent
of his constituents who
voted for him under the LP
and the same people
would vote for him to return
to the House come next
year.
Ogunwuyi said his
constituency would have
more dividends of
democracy now that he is
in APC which controls both
the Oyo State and the
Federal Government.
Ondo govt halts monarch's
anniversary over security
concerns

A KURE—CITING
unfavourable
security concerns, the Ondo
State government for the
second time in seven
months suspended
indefinitely the one year
anniversary celebration of
the Alale of Akungba
Akoko, Oba Sunday
Ajimoh.
The action was sequel to
the lingering Chieftaincy
tussle over the stool.
However, the monarch
rescheduled the celebration
for today (February 23rd)
only for government to
wield the big stick again.
The state government via
a letter addressed to the
traditional ruler directed
that the event be put on
hold in view of an
unfavourable security
report.
Vanguard gathered that
the Director, Chieftaincy
Affairs, Mr Adeyemo
signed the letter on behalf
of the Permanent Secretary,
Ministry ''of Local
Government and
Chieftaincy Affairs.
The letter reads in part:
“There is a threat to peace
and security as a result of
the proposed programme.
The state government has
therefore directed that the
proposed anniversary
celebration be suspended
indefinitely.”
Adeyemo said
government would not
allow anything truncate the
prevailing peace in the
state, “including Akungba
Akoko which hosts one of
the state universities.”

While the PDP insisted

Osun govt releases N200m
for payment of gratuities

—THE
Osun State
Government says it has
released N200 million to
settle part of the
outstanding gratuities due
to the 2011/2012 retirees in
the state.
Mr Sola Fasure, the
media adviser to Gov. Rauf
Aregbesola, said this,
yesterday, in Osogbo in a
statement released after the

Orientation Commissioner,
Yemi Olowolabi, said “the
current administration had
performed better than
administration of Dr.
Olusegun Mimiko-led,
when comparing the first
year of both
administrations.

would receive N100,000
each on ‘first come, first
