Holy Moly! The first quarter of 2018 is rapidly
coming to an end and in a blink of an eye; the
Peninsula Spring Market will be in full swing
(though it kind of feels that way already).
The VPAR Charitable Foundation (VPARCF) is
starting to turn heads and people are asking
what it is that we actually do.
The VPARCF is an 8 member Board of Directors
made up of Association volunteers.
The Foundation was started in 1994 and is
dedicated to improving the quality of life of
those in need by providing housing related assistance
and service for the Greater Peninsula
Residents. We do this through both financial
and hands-on assistance to various housing
related charitable organizations in our local
area.
Below is an update on both recent happenings
as well as upcoming events:
1. In February, we held our monthly
meeting at the Menchville House on Warwick
Blvd. At the meeting, it was discussed that our
inaugural movie night made a profit of $1500
which will be distributed 100% to housing
related charities on our Peninsula. After the
meeting, we were given a tour of the Menchville
House which provides temporary housing
for homeless families. It was a real eye
opener and reaffirmed why we are carrying
out the mission of the VPARCF. The Menchville
House does simply amazing work to help
those in need.
2. We also discussed the upcoming
annual VPAR Golf Tournament. It has been
tentatively planned for May 11th at the Deer
Park Country Club. Once again, the ever present
Joe Carney will lead this fundraising event.
So start planning your team or if you are not
a golfer but would simply like to help out,
please contact Joe.
3. Jim Wetzel, our CEO of VPAR, is diligently
working with the Habitat for Humanity
and will coordinate a day we, that is you and
I, can help build a home for another worthy
individual. More on that to come.
4. As a reminder, our remaining 2018
fundraising events will include a Bowlathon
in July and a Casino Night in October. Then
in the Fall, we will distribute the proceeds we
received this year to those housing related
charities we agreed to sponsor in 2018.
On a bitter sweet note, Past VPARCF President
and long-time advocate Tu Ritter has decided
to step down from the Foundation. Tu is gearing
up to take on leadership roles in several
other organizations. We wish him nothing but
success and appreciation for his help and support
throughout the years.
On a brighter note, REALTOR Leslie Moore of
Tideline Properties has agreed to join VPARCF.
Leslie has great experience in fundraising and
her involvement with your Foundation is going
to be a huge asset. Thank you for volunteering
Leslie.
If you would like to know more about the
Foundation or perhaps wish to get involved in
this community outreach program, please feel
free to give me a call (660-3906) or email me
at Sully@LizMoore.com. We look forward to
sharing with you more great news about your
Foundation in the coming months.
