Twin brothers going toe-to-toe, not in the boxing ring, but in the triple jump. Nant and Nont Prachuabmoh beat each other’s newly set record at Christ’s College in two jumps before landing incredibly at the same distance on their third. The twins are competitive in many aspects and finishing equal was not the ideal outcome for either. It will probably spur them on to great things in life, though. More activity this week over Environment Canterbury’s plan to scrap bus routes (see page 1). NOR’WEST NEWS Latest Christchurch news at www.star.kiwi Tuesday March 6 2018 3 News Intersection review due in May • By Julia Evans THE OUTCOME of an independent review of the Glandovey and Idris Rds intersection may be known in May. City council manager planning and delivery transport Lynette Ellis said a report on the intersection will be sent back to the Fendalton-Waimairi- Harewood Community Board. “The results and analysis of the work undertaken will be collated into a report to the community board. This is expected to be delivered in May,” she said. Ms Ellis said a detailed time line for the work could not be given as it was being done independently not in house by the city council. Last week, Nor’West News reported the city council had appointed a consultant to “provide an independent review/opinion” of the intersection. It is part of an ongoing saga between the city council, community board, and the Glandovey, Idris and Straven Residents’ Association, which has been trying to improve pedestrian and cyclist safety in the area. The association also wants restrictions on heavy trucks. As well as a review, the city council has commissioned traffic modelling to forecast the effect of any changes to the intersection and restrictions including some proposed for heavy vehicles could have on the wider network and a vehicle count. “The additional tube and camera traffic counts has been completed and we are awaiting the information from the contractor,” Ms Ellis said. A camera has also been installed above the intersection to record traffic “turning motion” after the residents found heavy vehicles could not navigate the intersection without cutting into other lanes. Residents’ association REPORT: The results of a city councilcommissioned independent review of the Glandovey and Idris Rds intersection will not be known until May. PHOTO: MARTIN HUNTER spokesman James Wilding said the city council had undertaken some remedial work by widening the cycleway, realigning the angle and moving two vehicle lanes by about a metre and repainting cycle lane symbols. He said the group “thanked” the city council for that work, which it did “in advance” of commissioning the current report.
