Solar power park with
2,000 MW capacity inaugurated
in Karnataka
Bengaluru | Chief Minister
Siddaramaiah on Thursday inaugurated
a solar power park with
a 2,000 megawatt capacity at
Pavagada in Karnataka’s
Tumakuru district, about 70 km
from here. “Karnataka has
emerged as the third-largest producer
of renewable energy in the
country. We have set a goal to
source at least 20 per cent of
power requirements from renewable
projects,” Siddaramaiah
said. In future, Karnataka aims
to be an energy-surplus state, he
said. Built on 13,000 acres
spread across five villages, the
park entailed an expenditure of
Rs 16,500 crore, an official
statement said. The solar park
generated 600 MW power as of
January 2018 while an additional
1,400 MW is expected to be
generated by December. Even as
the southern state claims that this
solar park is the largest,
Rajasthan’s Bhadla solar park
coming up in Jodhpur district
will have a capacity of 2,255
MW when fully operational.
“The solar park has farmers
from the Pavagada region as
partners and beneficiaries who
have leased out land for the
park,” said state Energy
Minister D.K. Shivakumar.
Nearly 2,300 farmers are part
of the project, with several giving
their land for Rs 21,000 per
acre per annum rent.
Tata Trusts, Telangana
sign MoU on cancer care
Hyderabad | The Telangana government and Tata Trusts on
Thursday signed an MoU to deliver high quality affordable cancer
care and develop academic and research capabilities in the state.
As part of the three-tier model, two apex super specialty hospitals
in Hyderabad — the MNJ Institute of Technology and the
Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences — will be upgraded to handle
complex cases on a referral basis. Medical colleges in
Adilabad, Nizamabad, Mahbubnagar and Warangal will be
strengthened so that they can offer diagnosis and treatment of cancer
cases. District hospitals in Karimnagar, Khammam and
Nalgonda will be developed to offer diagnostic and standardised
day care chemotherapy.
“Thereby, a state-wide cancer care network will get created to
take treatment closest to patients, through beefing up the existing
public health system and infrastructure,” said a statement from
Tata Trusts. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by
Telangana’s Health, Medical & Family Welfare Department
Principal Secretary Santhi Kumari and Tata Trusts Managing
Trustee R. Venkataramanan in the presence of Information
Technology Minister K.T. Rama Rao, Health Minister C. Laxma
Reddy, and Tata Trusts Chairman Ratan N. Tata.
