The JCC of Syracuse's Joe & Lynne Romano summer day camp offers programs for infants, preschoolers, school-age children and teens. Camp runs June 25 - August 17, 2018.

315-445-2360 | www.jccsyr.org JCC Camp Romano School-Age Camps Children entering grades 1–6 Camps Specialty Camps Painting with Mark Raush • Week 8: August 13–17 • Children entering grades 1 & up • Price Level: C Campers will experience and try out different types of paints in order to express themselves, including water color, tempra, and acrylics. Discover YOUR painting medium while creating true works of art. Campers will take a field trip to the Everson Museum to see other paintings and get inspired. Requirements: Campers must bring an art smock and wear clothes that can get messy. Enrollment: Min. of 8, max. of 12 campers. Photography with SU Light Work Daily field trip to SU Light Work! • Week 2: July 2–6 (not 7/4) • Children entering grades 3 & up • Price Level: A This photography-intensive camp will teach campers how to take photos while strolling the SU campus and surrounding area. Campers will also learn how to organize, edit, manipulate and enhance images using a computer, and take home a disc of finished photos at the end of the week. A digital camera is recommended, but not required. Enrollment: Min. of 8, max. of 10 campers. Rocketry • Week 6: July 30–August 3 • Children entering grades 4 & up • Price Level: B Make and launch your very own rockets! Spend the week learning and experimenting with the physics behind rocketry. Construct and personalize a rocket of your own and watch it soar. Learn the fundamentals and safety of model rocketry. We will launch our rockets right here at camp for all to see. Enrollment: Min. of 8, max. of 24 campers. Soccer with Le Moyne College • Week 3: July 9–13 • Children entering grades 1 & up • Price Level: B Learn to play soccer from the Le Moyne College players. Campers will experience soccer by playing games, running drills and fine tuning skills. Bring your A game! Enrollment: Min. of 8, max. of 24 campers. Spy Academy • Children entering grades 4–6 Week 1: June 25–29 • Children entering grades 1–3 Week 5: July 23–27 • Price Level: B Welcome to Camp Romano’s Spy Academy where you will end the week with a secret agent identity and certificate! Learn skills of disguise, investigating, surveillance, decoding and more. We’ll cover it all this week. Depending on the age level try your hand at laser tag or complete and Escape room! Spend Friday receiving extra training at the Museum of Science and Technology (MOST). Enrollment: Min. of 8, max. of 24 campers. Tennis with Elevate Fitness Daily field trip to Elevate Fitness! • Week 1: June 25–29 • Children entering grades 1 & up • Price Level: A Campers will learn and practice the skills necessary to play tennis at a level that will keep them challenged and enthusiastic. Requirements: Tennis rackets are required, although Elevate Fitness will have a few to be shared. Campers will learn the basics through games and exercises, how to creatively express themselves on stage and how to think outside the box. Each day will bring a new and exciting lesson, and prepare campers to put on their own show on Friday for all to see. Enrollment: Min. of 8, max. of 15 campers. Wild About Art with Mark Raush • Week 6: July 30–August 3 • Children entering grades 1 & up • Price Level: C Take a trip to the Rosamond Gifford Zoo with sketchbook in hand and learn the art of drawing living creatures. Use different media to complete your projects, and try your hand at replicating body features and animal movements. This camp is gonna be wild! Enrollment: Min. of 8, max. of 24 campers. Wilderness Skills • Week 8: August 14–17 • For children entering grades 4 & up • Price Level: C Spend your week learning how to survive in the great outdoors. Build tools and shelter from things found in the wild and learn the correct way to use a compass. Light campfires without matches, build your own compass, and cook hot dogs over an open fire for lunch of Friday! We will develop skills in forest areas two days of the week, learn how to tie knots, and have a survival kit to take home. Enrollment: Min. of 8, max. of 24 campers. Use the registration form on page 9. The JCC pool is a gathering place for our members and a great place to be when the weather gets hot. Maximize your membership by enjoying the pool in the evenings after work, on the weekends with family and friends, and complete your morning workout by swimming some laps. Incorporating the pool in your personal training can add a new dimension to your fitness program. Utilize this great aerobic opportunity during our lap swimming hours and make the most of the upcoming pool season! Whatever needs the pool may satisfy, we know it will provide many hours of rewarding recreation for you and your family. Some of our aquatics programs that will run throughout the course of the swimming season include learn-to-swim lessons, private and semi-private lessons, swim team, adult lap swim and children’s pool parties. 2018 Pool Season Calendar Saturday, May 26 Monday, June 25 Wednesday, July 4 Monday, Sept. 3 Pool opens at 9 am Learn to Swim lessons begin Camp Romano begins Holiday; pool open 9 am – 7 pm Labor Day; last day pool is open for the season Pool hours before and after Camp Romano season Saturday, May 26 – Sunday, June 24 and Saturday, Aug. 18 – Monday, Sept. 3 Sunday – Friday 9 am – 7 pm Saturday 10 am – 7 pm Lap Swim (Mon.–Fri. only) Ends at noon Camp Romano season Monday, June 25 – Friday, Aug. 17 Monday – Friday 3:30 pm – 8 pm Saturday 10 am – 7 pm Sunday 9 am – 7 pm Lap Swim only (Mon.–Fri. only) 8–9 am 15 minutes each hour may be designated for Adult Swim and can be scheduled by request with the lifeguards on duty.
