Jean Wethered
It is with great sadness that I report the death in September of
our dear friend in the Liverpool branch and gifted flower arranger
at Liverpool Cathedral for many years. She rarely missed a
branch meeting or event. She was famous for her dry sense of
humour and wit. Jean enjoyed our annual Flower Festival and
May 2017 was no exception. Liverpool Cathedral participated in
the Metropolitan cathedral’s 50th anniversary Flower Festival
celebration. Jean was there sharing her talents and foliage with
everyone.
She was a lovely lady who was loved by all in CEFAA who had
the privilege of knowing her. She will be greatly missed.

Icicles
In preparation for our depiction ‘Christmas’ at the Metropolitan
cathedral flower festival we endeavoured to make icicles to hang
on the painted Christmas trees. Barbara Harvey our branch
secretary and I met at Jean’s house to make the icicles a few
weeks prior to the festival, armed with glue guns, glitter, florist’s
paper and recycled orchid tubes we proceeded. Not having done
this before it became quite a challenge. A sheet of paper was laid
out on the table and with glue guns we made swirls across the
paper and sprinkled silver glitter on top of the hot glue. The next
step was cutting out the desired length needed to wrap round the
orchid tube to form the icicle.
With much fun and laughter and ourselves all glittered we
completed the task. The finished icicles were very pleasing, and
we received many encouraging comments from the public.
