If <strong>Mackenzie</strong> & <strong>Ebert</strong>’s <strong>2013</strong> is anything to go by, it may well be the year that the<br />
golf world began to shrug off the world recession.<br />
It was a year dominated by reconstruction work<br />
with projects underway in Canada, Denmark, Finl<strong>and</strong>, Engl<strong>and</strong>,<br />
Luxembourg, Scotl<strong>and</strong>, Wales, Holl<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> Spain.<br />
15 of the Top 50 Courses in Great Britain & Irel<strong>and</strong> were advised.<br />
Advice continued to be provided at 5 of the 9 Open venues<br />
Turnberry, Royal St. George’s, Royal Lytham & St. Annes, Royal Troon <strong>and</strong> Carnoustie<br />
50 greens or green surrounds were reworked or rebuilt <strong>and</strong> more than<br />
300 bunkers reshaped or added.<br />

Every project is important but <strong>2013</strong> marked some projects that merit special mention.<br />
South Course, Angus Glen, Ontario, Canada<br />
Almost unbelievably the entire course was rebuilt in 12 weeks, starting on 30th August <strong>2013</strong>.<br />
At the peak of the work, there were 30 machines <strong>and</strong> 70 people working on the site.<br />
Royal Troon, Ayrshire, Scotl<strong>and</strong><br />
An extensive package of work is underway at Royal Troon in preparation for the 2016 Open<br />
Championship. It includes tees <strong>and</strong> bunkers as well as extensive dune construction on the 9th <strong>and</strong><br />
10th holes <strong>and</strong> relocating the first part of the 15th hole.<br />
Furesø, Copenhagen Denmark<br />
Phase One of the reconstruction of every bunker <strong>and</strong> green surround at Furesø was completed<br />
with this year’s work extending to 10 greens out of 27, the remainder of which will be rebuilt in 2014.<br />
Royal Mid-Surrey, Surrey, Engl<strong>and</strong><br />
The reconstruction of the front nine on the Outer Course at Royal Mid-Surrey was undertaken,<br />
involving extensive work in The River Thames flood plain. This work follows the successful<br />
reconstruction of the back nine in 2009.<br />
Delamere Forest, Cheshire, Engl<strong>and</strong><br />
Many clubs are re-working their bunkers, but Delamere Forest has rebuilt all 81 of theirs<br />
in 14 months, hiring a shaper <strong>and</strong> doing all turfing in house.<br />
