It’s a huge year for RAMH (Recovery Across Mental Health) with the recent announcement that they had been voted as the Renfrewshire Employer of the Year. Celebrations don’t end there though as RAMH will also be celebrating its 40th Anniversary this May. They are marking the occasion by hosting a fundraising 40th Anniversary Dinner and Quiz at the Normandy Hotel on 25th May. The event is proudly sponsored by University of the West of Scotland and RAMH are delighted to secure Vanessa Collingridge as the evening’s host. Guests will enjoy a fizz reception, 3 course meal followed by a raffle and auction. This year RAMH aims to raise £20,000 which will be used to provide the vital mental health services RAMH offers. RAMH are thrilled to have secured a Jaguar for the weekend courtesy of Taggarts as the star auction prize. Stephen McLellan, Chief Executive of RAMH said “We are delighted that Taggart Jaguar have offered to provide such a wonderful prize for our 40th Anniversary Quiz and Dinner on May 25th. This is possibly the most prestigious prize we have ever received, which is poignant, because Jaguar is equally one of the most prestigious vehicle brands. This will attract positive attention to the work of RAMH and we are thrilled to be associated with Taggarts as a result”. Other prizes include a Luxury Lodge on the banks of Loch Lomond, Afternoon Tea vouchers, signed football merchandise and Virgin train tickets for a journey of your choice. A special thanks also goes to Arnold Clark for their donation as well as Stafffinders Paisley who recently nominated RAMH as their charity of the year. Sailing Club’s Funding Success Castle Semple Sailing Club has recently been successful in its application to Awards for All/ Big Lottery for funding for a new safety craft. The new boat has been ordered and should be with us by mid April. Many thanks to the Big Lottery for making this award to us. The Club has also recently been successful in its application to Flightpath for funds towards the purchase of a second-hand RS Vision. It is intended that the boat will be available for use by families, cadets and adults. Many thanks to Flightpath for awarding us this funding. Our club is delighted with this fantastic funding. Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the main cause of sight loss in the developed world and it can leave sufferers and their families feeling isolated and uncertain about the future. By 2020, it is predicted almost 700,000 people will have late-stage AMD in the UK. Age-related macular degeneration usually causes a gradual loss of vision, however, in some cases vision loss can be very sudden. Symptoms of AMD may include fuzziness or distortion in your central vision. Regular eye tests are essential for older patients as the early signs of AMD can usually be detected by an optician before symptoms occur. However, a cure for AMD could be on the horizon as a group of UK charities have recently announced a partnership with an artificial intelligence company to help find new treatments and research into a potential cure for AMD. Action Against AMD has been formed by the charities Fight for Sight, the Macular Society, Blind Veterans UK and Scottish War Blinded to generate more funding for research into AMD, and to develop treatments to prevent people losing their sight from the condition. If you or someone close to you has recently been diagnosed with AMD or any other type of macular condition, the Macular Society can offer help and support in various ways. They can provide information on living guides, gadgets and technology to assist you with everyday tasks that you or your loved one may find frustrating or challenging. They should also be able to recommend local groups that will help you to understand your condition, come to terms with sight loss, share information about treatment and help you to remain independent. april 2018 t: 01505 613340 e: info@advertizer.co.uk Kilmacolm & Port Glasgow Show The 183rd Kilmacolm & Port Glasgow Agricultural Show will take place in the spectacular setting of the Knapps Loch on Saturday 12th May from 9am. There will be hundreds of entries in our wide range of classes - sheep, cows, horses (light and heavy), children’s cattle, and dogs. A very popular part of the Show is the Children’s Pet Show. Kids 16 years and under can bring your wee pet along - everyone gets a prize! Pets must be entered by 11am on the day of the show, but no cats or dogs are allowed. The Industrial Tent will showcase the domestic arts, crafts and baking by adults and children. Entry forms and fees must be submitted by Friday 11th May. There will be a dog show for all hairy hounds - dogs do not need to be KC registered and entries are taken on showday from 10.30 at the Dog Ring. Light Horse classes, including cross country, showjumping, showing and games, will run all day and entries can be made on showday at the Horse Tent at double the fees shown in the schedule. Light Horse classes can be entered online at www. kilmacolmshow. co.uk at normal fees until Friday 4th May. Schedules and entry forms for all classes can be downloaded from the website - www. kilmacolmshow. co.uk. There will be lots of family entertainment in the main ring, including the fantastic St Columba’s School Pipe Band, May Hughes School of Dance, a Gun Dog Scurry and a Dog Agility Display Team. The entertainment starts at 12noon and ends at 4 with the Prize Draw so make sure you get your tickets on show day! There will be sheep shearing and cow milking demonstrations throughout the afternoon near the main ring. Throughout the Showground, you will find exhibitions and fair rides, food, trade and refreshment stands, a catering tent, and a bar. There is also a prize draw with some fabulous prizes which helps to fund the Show each year. This is great day out for the whole family - human and hairy!
