Article Submissions
First of all, thank you very much to everyone who sends
in their articles for The Advertizer. Each month we have
plenty to choose from and, while we try to include as
much as we can, some need to be cut back due to space
restrictions.
To make things easier for the little elves in the office,
could we please ask if articles are submitted as text
within the email. Ideally, articles should be no longer than
300 words, but we do appreciate that sometimes it is
necessary for more to get your message across and will
accommodate if we can.
And if sending in photographs, please send these as
separate attachments to your email. If they are sent
within a word document, we are unable to extract these
to the high quality required for a good reproduction in
print. These can be sent as JPG or PDF files, and 300dpi
resolution is best, resized to within 8cm boundaries.
If in any doubt, please call or email the office and the
elves will be happy to advise you!
Masquerade Ball raises £43,000 for
Patient Care
A sellout crowd of distinguished guests, including Provost Martin Brennan, enjoyed a fantastic
night of entertainment at Greenock Town Hall on Saturday 10th March, when broadcaster Suzie
McGuire hosted the Ardgowan Hospice Masquerade Ball sponsored by Specsavers Greenock.
The highlight of this year’s event was the grand auction, run by Brian Clements of McTear’s
auctioneers in Glasgow, which, along with the silent auction, raffle and other fundraising
elements on the night, helped the event generate an amazing £43,000.
The event included a heartfelt speech from Brendan Donnachie. He talked eloquently about
the level care his father Joe received at the hospice and how the clinical and nursing staff
helped support his family and made their days with their father special. The monies raised
at the ball will give 72 days of dedicated patient care in the In-Patient unit to other families in
Inverclyde. It could also fund 267 home visits from one of our Specialist Community Nurses
– that’s daily visits for almost nine months. This gives patients and their families and carers
practical, emotional and physical support in the comfort of their own home.
This is a fantastic result and Lesley Brown from new headline sponsors Specsavers Greenock
said, “We had a fabulous night at the Masquerade Ball and are so proud that we’re able to
support a local cause to achieve these great results.”
As well as headline sponsorship, Specsavers contributed two lots for the silent auction: his and
hers designer glasses, including lenses. The ball was supported by many other local businesses
including Golden Casket who provided delicious chocolates for all guests and a silent auction
lot of a hamper of Millions sweets. The live auction was again hosted by Brian Clements of
McTear’s Auctioneers, who also sponsored the event.
Ian Marshall, Acting CEO, added: “This event demonstrates the amount of community support
from individuals and local businesses to the work we do to provide services to people and
their families living with life limiting conditions across Inverclyde. The hospice needs to raise
over two-thirds of its everyday costs and the ball is one of the ways we help to continue to
fund services. We thank all the attendees and supporters for their kindness and genuine
support.”
Big Thanks for Passing on your
Musical Instruments
Thanks for the great response from local people, schools, nurseries and organisations to
‘Pass it on week’ in March. We’ve had violins, electric guitars, clarinets, drum kits, pianos
and harmonicas handed into St Vincent’s Hospice Shops, LEAP Offices, schools and RAMH
Re-use superstore.
Our photo for Pass It On Week shows donated guitars already being put to good use at free guitar
lesson for kids with Nico Guitariste.
And although Pass It On Week is over
if anyone has any instruments or
equipment to donate they can contact
Jen directly through email: info@
musicbroth.org, Tel:07990638610 or
drop any instruments into LEAP.
