Tag-n-Track Project Update
It’s time for the monthly roundup from the Tag-n-Track
Ranger - Hannah Riley. TnT is funded by Heritage
Lottery Fund, Greater Renfrewshire and Inverclyde
LEADER and Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park.
Project News: It is that time of year again when we
are seeing the Lesser Black-backed Gulls back on our
shores. The team have seen many at Castle Semple
loch and quite a few in Glasgow too, none with colour
rings yet but it is only a matter of time! So far none
of our own gulls have returned home for the breeding
season. They might have been put off by our recent
snow storm! Perhaps the gulls that have already
returned are regretting their decision? Although we
aren’t getting a lot of data at the moment because of
network failures and reduced lighting we can still see
that we have Clyde in Western Sahara, Stuart, Atty
and Flyback in Morocco, Roland, Roger, PC Bobby
and Gary in Portugal and we have Jonathan, Stephen
and Archie in France.
There’s a lovely photo of Archie below, taken in
France on the 25th of February by Philippe Birac in
the region of Le Verdon-sur-Mer. He is still in his
winter plumage, which may indicate that he will be
one of the later birds to return. He is looking in good
condition, however, which bodes well for when he
does eventually come home. Gary, who has been in
Portugal since December, started to move into Spain
in February and we thought that might be him heading
home, however he seems to be settled travelling
over the border between Portugal and Spain. Stay
tuned for next month as we may have some our gulls
home!
The team have been busy delivering talks in the last
month to the Culzean Gardening Club, St Elizabeth’s
Primary School in Hamilton, and at two schools in
Dalry and West Primary in Paisley. We are continuing
to increase our public engagement activities and
events so if you would like us to come and talk to
your group then please get in touch. Details can be
found below. To keep up to date with the project and
