Things were not good after The
Ex Fiance found out I sent a
“sexy” photo to another guy.
Which, fair enough. No, I didn’t
cheat on him with his best
friend or anything like that, but
sure. I sent someone a photo
with intent to excite, while in a
committed relationship (with
someone who wasn’t paying
any attention to me).
One night, his friend
Mar invited us both
out for drinks in
Hell’s Kitchen. I
got dressed up
in a pair of hot
pink silk shorts
and a black
wool hat.
“Tonight,” I
told myself, “I’m going to
remind him what makes us
special.”
But once at the bar, he
immediately ordered a shot
of tequila, pounded it, and
ordered a bourbon on the
rocks. I
ordered a
fruity girly
drink and
sipped
it slowly,
watching
him drink
the night
away.
Mar made
sure to keep
me included.
“This is Ian-
Michael,”
she gushed,
introducing me
to another friend.
“He’s going to
be a famous writer
someday.”
“Don’t say that,” The Ex
Fiance spat from next to
me, turning his head. “He
doesn’t need that kind of
positive reinforcement; he’s
vain enough.”
Mar and I looked at each other
for a long, awkward moment.
Nobody said anything, until The
Ex Fiance ordered “Another
bourbon, maestro!”
Around midnight, The Ex
Fiance paid his rather large
tab, and I paid for my two girly
drinks. “I just got invited to
something a few blocks away,”
he mumbled. “I’m gonna
bounce.”

“Wanna go together?” I asked.
He looked at me for another
long, awkward moment before
deciding, “Sure.”
As we walked down 10th
Avenue, I kept trying to grab
his hand, to lace our fingers
together, to remind him we
were together—but he kept
pulling away. “Jesus, can you
just hold my hand?” I snapped.
“FUCK YOU!” he screamed,
turning around. I stood there,
motionless, speechless. “Fuck
you and everything about you.
Fuck you for doing this to me!”
“I told you I’m sorry,” I said,
quietly. “I don’t know what else
I can do. I don’t know what I can
say to make it better.”
“Maybe you can’t!” He put
his hands over his face; pulled
them away. “You broke it,
Ian-Michael. YOU FUCKING
BROKE IT.”
He turned around and kept
walking, and I stood there,
watching him go. He didn’t turn
around, not once, and then
he was out of sight, and I was
alone.
Maybe I did break it. Maybe he
broke it, in 2011, in Iowa, when
he slept with my best friend
while we were engaged. Maybe
it was always broken, like a
pretty typewriter you buy in a
vintage shop that you know will
never actually work. I bought
our thrift store typewriter and I
put in on display, for years. But
The Ex FIance hadn’t tried to
write on it in years, and I longed
for a typewriter that could
actually write my story.

ANNOUNCES TWO NEW PARTIES FOR
NEW YORK NIGHTLIFE
One of the fiercest, most sought after and
successful promoters that New York’s nightlife
has come across, Sasha Seven has announced
two steaming hot parties about to happen.
His triumphant celebrations have touched the
lives of many and now continue to tempt the
community.
Hombres Lounge will host Sasha’s monthly
Score party, sponsored by the likes of Andrew
Christian and Marco Marco Underwear, while
The Monster will host a monthly party beginning
March 30 called Pumpd, featuring the latest
music. I spoke to Sasha regarding both new
parties and what one can expect.
So tell me about your two
brand new parties.
I have two new parties, and all
of a sudden I created a website,
which is a good thing to do
right now. It’s all about social
media and how everything is
connected, so I figure it’s better
this way. They are all certainly
different. I’m helping a bar in
Jackson Heights at Hombres
Lounge. I’m going to bring
back my Score party. Andrew
Christian helped me with the
grand opening, and he’s a big
sponsor, and now Marco Marco
underwear is sponsoring my
next party. It’s a glow party at
Hombres Lounge. Then it’s the
first time I’m doing something
on my own in three years at The
Monster, March 30. Both parties
will be held monthly.
Tell me about the one at The
Monster.
It’s called Pumpd. It’s going to
be a party with all the latest
music. I’m going to mix it up
with different styles, because
bars end up having club DJs.
I’m getting a club DJ. It’s going
to have different themes and
different DJs. We are going
to mix it up a bit. We will have
giveaways also. The one on
March 30 at The Monster will
be from 10:30 till close.
I saw on your website you
helped promote Carson
Kressley’s show this past
Friday.
I have the new website, which
will act as a hub for all of
my events so I can e-blast
everyone. I figured, let me have
a website. I’m getting a lot of
support and sponsors too. It’s
something new, and I figure
a good idea to have at the
moment.
Sasha, you’ve been doing this
for a while now.
Eight years. I started at The Ritz
on Saturdays for two years.
What do you feel your most
successful party has been?
I have had two long-running
parties actually. One was Score
at Bartini for a year, and I had
the longest-running summer
party called Sky High at Hudson
Terrace. Being on my own now,
I don’t have any promoters I’m
working with, but I’m always
open to working with someone
else. I’m a politician. You have
to be there for everybody.
I am a supporter of the gay
community. I can’t believe I’m
still part of New York nightlife.
On a smaller scale, but I’m still
there.
I feel like you’ll always be
there.
I feel that way too now. This
generation, this time, yes. This
decade has just been revived
again. It’s crazy. I like to keep
my relationships intact, and I’ll
help anyone too.
Well, everyone knows your
name, and that’s a really cool
thing.
Yeah, thank you. I try to keep a
good reputation working with
people and everyone in the
nightlife.

On April 7, The Imperial
Court of New York (ICNY)
will be hosting its annual
Night of a Thousand
Gowns. For the past year
Henry Bastos-Wood has
served as emperor XXVl
Harrington for ICNY, the
first Latino elected in 31
years.
I spoke with the emperor
about his incredible reign
and what it meant to him.
We also spoke about
the upcoming event and
what everyone could
expect.
What was the highlight of your
fabulous year of your reign as
Emperor of ICNY?
​The first was being elected as the first
Latino emperor in our 31-year history
here in New York. Then it was being able
to travel throughout the United States
and Canada with my biggest support
and my husband, Billy Wood-Bastos,
representing this amazing organization,
the ICNY.
What are you most proud of doing
this year?
I believe it is the amount of support and
successful fundraising our members did
this year. Everyone worked together,
either through outreach programs or
holding events throughout the city
and Long Island. Because of this, we
are able to help out other non-profit
organizations.

Also, seeing so many of my friends
from the Imperial Court System
attending from all over the United
States, Canada and Mexico, and some
of them being part of my stepdown,
is exciting. As always, we have some
great entertainment, special guest and
surprise performances. Also, this year’s
theme will be Carnival, so we have
some amazing costumes this year. As
always, it will be full of glitz and glam
and celebrity guests in attendance.
This was my goal when running for emperor
of the ICNY, to help and support as many
non-profit organizations as possible.
What did it mean for you to be emperor,
and how did it change your life forever?​
Being elected emperor was so special
to me. It meant that the membership of
the ICNY had confidence that I would do
an amazing job and represent them. As
the emperor of the ICNY, you are asked
to attend many events both from the
ICNY and other organizations throughout
New York City and Long Island. You
meet so many people and hear stories of
struggles and success and how non-profit
organizations have helped them out. Being
able to help raise monies and support some
of these non-profit organizations means
more people can tell their stories and get
the help they need. I am so proud that I was
able to do this. This also gave me a voice
in my birth country of Costa Rica. They are
going through many struggles trying to
pass LGBTQ rights, and they have called or
emailed me for my advice or comments for
their struggles and how to approach other
political organizations on these matters.
That is what the International Court System
is all about, helping when and where we can
get laws passed for the betterment of our
LGBTQ communities.
What are you most looking forward to at
this year’s Night of a Thousand Gowns?
As always at NOATG, it is the support of the
community and our membership coming
together to celebrate our successful year.
Tell us about some of the work you
did this year.
This year we held over 50 events,
either by fundraising or outreach
programs.
This helped out our LGBTQ
communities here locally. I was also
invited to many other non-profit
organizations where I was asked to
attend and represent the ICNY. This
was an amazing experience to see
how other organizations operate
and fundraise. Being part of the NYC
Heritage Pride Parade and riding in the
most beautiful float that was designed
and decorated by our court members.
Then the traveling throughout the
United States and Canada; I attended
nine coronations during my reign, the
furthest one being Hawaii. So I stayed
pretty busy throughout the year with
either fundraising here in NYC and
Long Island or traveling representing
the ICNY.
Where and when will Night of a
Thousand Gowns take place, and how
would one be able to attend?
This year NOATG will be held at the
Marriott Marquis Times Square on April
7, 2018, starting with cocktail hour at
6 p.m. This year’s beneficiary is God’s
Love We Deliver. So if you would love
to see some amazing entertainment,
[the event will feature] international
recording artists Dawn Tallman and
Beth Sacks and performances by
Ginger Snap Deluca and Destiny
B Childs. Also, we have a surprise
command performance you won’t
want to miss, so make sure you get

A very dear friend of
mine, Madison Mansfield,
will be giving up her
crown as empress of The
Imperial Court of New
York at the extravaganza
Night of a Thousand
Gowns for a second
time. The event will take
place April 7, and for
those who have never
experienced the sublime
charity event, it’s a party
of a lifetime.
I shared questions with
the empress, one of the
kindest people I’ve ever
met, about her reign and
her desire to help a good
friend of hers.

What is your ICNY official name?
East Coast First Lady to the Americas,
Granddaughter to Queen Mother
Nicole the Great, Queen Mother of the
Americas 2017, International Double
Eagle Award Recipient, The Curvy Long
Island Temptress of Serenity, Sincerity
and Seduction, Her Imperial Majesty
Empress XXIX & Regent Empress XXXI,

This isn’t your first time around as
empress. How do you compare your
experience this time with last time?
This time was totally different. I
stepped up as regent to help out and
assist a dear friend of mine for the
past 15 years as he took on the role of
emperor (Henry Bastos). My role this
time was simply to guide and assist
him in having the best reign possible.
Last time I was empress, it was my
reign, and I saw everything as if it was
brand new. This time I am much more
experienced and seasoned.
What were some of the highlights of
this year’s reign?
A major highlight for me is always the
NYC Gay Pride Parade. Turning the
corner onto 5th Avenue and hearing all
the crowds cheer is an amazing feeling.
I also deeply care about the work we
do as volunteers with the Hearts &
Voices program of entertaining people
with HIV/AIDS and bringing a smile
to their face. Each member of ICNY
has surprised me or shown their love
and support for our community, which
reminds me daily why we joined this
organization.
What comes after being empress?
This time I must answer rest and
relaxation. I am the first empress in
ICNY to go from empress to dowager
to empress again as the first ever regent
empress in ICNY history. I am a little
exhausted, to say the least. It’s time
to stop and smell the roses a bit and
support those with aspirations of being
empress one day in the future.
What’s the best thing about being
empress?
The best part of being empress of New
York is that everywhere you travel people
want to know who the empress of NYC
is, because New York is considered the
“crown jewel” in the Court System. This
can be good or can be bad. However, if
you know how to play the game, you can
make every situation work in your favor.
What are you most looking forward
to at this year’s Night of a Thousand
Gowns?
I am most looking forward to seeing
all of the many friends I have made
around the court circuit come to
NYC, some for the very first time,
to celebrate a marvelous year of
fundraising. In addition to that, I look
forward to the crowning of my sisterwife
Gaye Banter as empress and the
installation of the new Regent Emperor
(my Imperial father—keeping it in the
family) Rob Hunter de Woofs.

HER MUSIC IS ‘SUBLIME’
KENDRA ERIKA PERFORMS NYC

Kendra Erika is rising on the Billboard charts once again, this time
with “Sublime,” her psychedelic club track about taboo love.
Currently at #21, the song is expected to debut on the Billboard
Top Twenty chart next week. The song has a sensuous vibe-y lounge
groove, built around a continuous tempo and looming ghost voice
that harkens back to early ‘80s house music. It follows “Under My
Skin,” Kendra’s club single that climbed to #6 on the Billboard
Dance Chart last summer. Where “Under My Skin” was nebulous,
describing a vague, although brighter experience, ”Sublime”
is more defined, detailing an intimate, under-wraps experience
between two lovers.
She’ll perform both tracks, first at The Ritz, and then the next night
at Industry Bar. We spoke to her as she was preparing for her
shows.

What makes a dangerous taboo
love so much sweeter?
Taboo love isn’t necessarily
forever, but it does change one’s
perspective and allows that person
to establish what it is he or she wants
moving forward in the future. It’s
an experience that allowed me to
blossom, that’s for sure.
So you have experienced a taboo,
or as you call it, a “Sublime” love in
real life?
Oh, yes. I channel my own experiences
in all my songs. The experience I was
in was that we wanted to test the
limits as far as we could go. Being
on the run, so to speak, made it us
against the world. We eliminated
all the distractions. We grew from the
experience, and not only together but
singularly. I’m a different person today
because of that love.
What sound were you going for in
“Sublime?”
I wanted something with that classic,
innocent rave essence to it. The tempo
is continuous, and the ghost voice in the
background adds some mystery to the
track.
Has having a unique sound helped or
hurt you as an emerging artist?
Both. The most difficult roadblock
I’ve faced is that oftentimes, people
like what they like, and if a sound is
unfamiliar to them, they don’t welcome
it. Implementing bold and poetic
messages behind dance club beats is
challenging too, because most clubbers
only give attention to a song’s beat and
not its message.
Are you excited to perform “Sublime”
and “Under Your Skin” in New York?
Nothing beats the energy of New York.
I am so looking forward to being in the
moment and letting dance music serve
its sublime purpose.
