WINNERS: Marian College’s under-14 relay team won the 4x100m at the South
Island secondary school championships in Timaru.
Marian’s athletes get
‘best results in along time’
• By Sophie Cornish
MARIAN COLLEGE has achieved “some
of the best results in a long time” on the
track, according to principal Mary-Lou
Davidson.
The school’s athletes took home two
titles at the recent South Island secondary
school athletics championships in Timaru.
The under-14 4x100m relay team won
their race, which makes them the South
Island and Canterbury champions.
The team was made up of Maia Columbus,
Beautienna Gamble, Manea Faith-
Waaka and Jasmine Rosengrave.
Gamble also won the under-14 discus
title with a throw of 31.92m.
The championships were held during
the summer tournament week at Aorangi
Stadium. Mrs Davidson said the team
that travelled to the event was bigger than
SPORTS
usual. “These are the best athletics results
we’ve had in a long time so it’s very exciting.”
Said teacher in charge of athletics Anne
Dick: “Our year nine athletes are an impressive
group of girls, and for some, this
was their first athletics competition. It was
my pleasure and privilege to mentor (and)
in several cases, coach these girls. We are
very proud of their positive attitudes, fair
play and success.”
Louise Daly came second in the open
girls 2000m steeplechase and Kate Taylor
was second in the under-15 triple jump.
contribute to high
blood pressure.
The Snorex
device does not feel
restrictive, is noninvasive
and carries
a money-back guarantee.
Many people are referred by ear, nose
