PROPOSAL: An architect’s

Toilet proposed for
Harrington Park
THE CITY council is looking for
feedback on a proposal to install
a toilet in Riccarton’s Harrington
Park.
The park, on Peverel St, currently
has no toilet.
Its closest public toilets are located
in Westfield Riccarton, The
Warehouse on Blenheim Rd and
Middleton Park.
The placement of the new toilet
has been selected to tie in with
existing services, and visibility to
the road.
Funding has become available
to install a toilet with some new
landscape planting. The city council
plan to undertake this work
next month and in June.
Public consultation on the proposal
finishes on April 16.

A COMMUNITY initiative
by Housing New Zealand has
expanded after support from
the Hei Hei and Broomfield
community.
HNZ tenancy manager Zoe
Wood, who lives and works in
the area, devised the Tea and
Tots programme for under fiveyear-olds
in
August.
Miss Wood
wanted to
demonstrate
the kind of
support HNZ
can provide
in a community.
She started
holding a monthly gathering
for parents and carers of young
children at 126 on the Corner
– which is owned by the Hei
Hei Broomfield Community
Development Trust.
Miss Wood said the community
feedback had been overwhelming
and two volunteers,
impressed with the programme
and its aims, had offered to
come on board.
This means the monthly programme
is now weekly.
And it’s not only locals who
are supporting the programme
– the city council has approved
a $500 community grant so
new toys can be bought for the
group.
Miss Wood was thrilled with
the grant and ongoing support
from families.
“The objective of the group
is to have our community mixing,
meeting, supporting and
having fun with one another,”
she said.
