The main <strong>for</strong>m of collecting primary data in these case studies was through questionnaire<br />

surveys, interviews with key experts, focus groups, meetings <strong>and</strong> workshops. A summary of<br />

the approaches used is provided in Table 1. The recent IOC Manuals <strong>and</strong> Guides (2006) <strong>and</strong><br />

monitoring guides by Pomeroy et al. (2004), Wahle et al. (2003) <strong>and</strong> Bunce et al. (2000)<br />

provide good examples of indicators <strong>and</strong> methodologies <strong>for</strong> collecting <strong>and</strong> analyzing social,<br />

economic, governance <strong>and</strong> cultural components in the context of both primary <strong>and</strong> secondary<br />

data.<br />
