Call (847) 272- 4565 ext. 35. In Memoriam George William Gibson George William Gibson, 90, of Lake Forest, died March 21 after experiencing a decline in health over the last several years. He was born on June 15, 1927 in Dixon, Ill. to George O. Gibson and Margaret Vivian (Drew) Gibson. After graduating from Dixon High School Gibson worked for a full year until he was old enough to join the U.S. Navy on June 13, 1945. He served on the U.S.S. Nicholas and U.S.S. Kidd until World War II ended. After the war Gibson reentered to the work force and also enrolled at the University of Illinois, Champaign and earned his bachelor of science in 1954. His career started at Continental Can Company after college and continued until accepting an offer from Merrill Lynch, Chicago and later retiring from Invest Securities in Libertyville. Gibson and his wife Odette were united in marriage in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Winter Haven, Fla., on April 22, 1967. He is survived by his loving wife Lucienne Odette; children, George “Chip” Harris Gibson, William Drew Gibson and Jacqueline Odette (Matthew) Wieck; grandchildren, Brady Gibson, Beau Gibson, Lucy Wieck, Theodore Wieck and Alton Wieck. Jeanne Bernier LaPlace Jeanne Bernier LaPlace (nee Bernier), 88, of Lake Forest, died March 22 at Lake Forest Hospital. She was born Feb. 7, 1930 in Quincy, Mass. to Florence and Arthur Bernier and later moved to Lexington, Mass. where she resided until she married Desmond LaPlace, her loving husband and devoted companion for 62 years. LaPlace and her husband traveled the world together and had many wonderful times making lifelong friends along the way. She received her undergraduate degree from Mundelein College and a master’s degree in English from the University of Chicago. She took great pleasure in her gardens and was an active member in the Lake Forest Garden Club. She also was a participant in The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and the Genealogical Society of America, as well as various other organizations. Her warmth and empathy for people was felt by all who came in contact with her. Her husband said, “Jeanne was the sweetest, most loving, generous, kind and beautiful individual. She was everything you would want in a person and always left you with a smile.” She is survived by her husband, Desmond; brother, Arthur Bernier; sister, Diane Vultaggio; many nieces and nephews. Stephen Foley, Sr. Stephen Foley, 92, of Lake Forest, died March 23. Throughout his life, Foley set an example of hard work, integrity, kindness, generosity and humility. He was born in Chicago, attended Quigley Preparatory Seminary and Mundelein Seminary, served in the army and graduated from Loyola University in 1948. He married the love of his life, Mercedes, April 26, 1952 and shortly after their marriage, he left his position at General Motors Acceptance Corporation (GMAC) to pursue a career in car sales at Hollingshead Oldsmobile on Chicago’s South Side. He moved from sales to management and in 1964, he became the dealer/owner of Hollingshead Oldsmobile renamed Steve Foley’s Hollingshead Oldsmobile. In 1974, he sold the Oldsmobile dealership and purchased a Cadillac dealership in Northbrook renamed Steve Foley Cadillac. In 1983, he was vetted by Rolls-Royce and found worthy of the Rolls-Royce and Bentley franchises. Through the years, he purchased and sold several dealerships in Illinois, Wisconsin and Florida. At one time, he also owned and operated several tire and service centers throughout the Chicago area. He served for 19 years on the board of the Chicago Automobile Trade Association (CATA) and was chairman of the Chicago Auto Show in 1980. He was a member of the Cadillac Advertising Association and the National Dealer Council. He received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from Quigley Seminary in 1994. He was involved in and supported many charitable organizations. He and Mercedes served twice as chairpersons of the Loyola Stritch School of Medicine Awards Dinner. The dinner is the longest-running black-tie gala in Chicago and continues to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for medical student scholarships. He was a great man, a gentleman who will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mercedes (nee Meyenberg); children, Mary Margaret, Cathy and Maureen (Richard Schabel) and Steve, Jr. (Barbara); grandchildren, Steve, Ryan, Mercedes Schabel and Richard Schabel; brother-in-law, John Meyenberg; sisters-in-law, Helene Meyenberg and Rosemary (Michael) Pavlo; 13 nieces and 13 nephews. Visitation Friday, April 6 from 9-11 a.m. at Wenban Funeral Home, 320 Vine Ave., Lake Forest, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. at the Church of St. Mary, 175 E. Illinois Rd., Lake Forest. Maple Avenue, Mundelein, IL 60060. Andrea Cutting Andrea Cutting (nee Papas), 52 of Lake Forest, died March 26. She was born in Chicago and moved to Lake Forest at the age of 10. She was a 1983 graduate of Lake Forest High School, 1987 graduate of Southern Methodist University and a member of the Chi Omega sorority. Her professional life took her to London, where she worked in the financial markets before returning to Chicago to take up positions on various nonprofit boards. She is survived by her loving husband, James C.; son, Thomas; mother, Patricia Papas (the late James Papas); in-laws, Leonard and Shirley Cutting; siblings, Beth DeSantiago (Peter) and Diane Papas (Davide Brusa); brother-in-law, Richard Fontana (the late Kristine Papas Fontana); nieces and nephews, Quincy McIlvaine, Austin McIlvaine, Marla Fontana, Jillian Fontana and Nicholas Fontana; many family members and lifelong friends across the country and world.
